Transportation Intern
POSITION PURPOSE
The Co-Op/Intern will work with the Transportation team to ensure steel products are delivered to SSAB’s customers in an efficient and safe manner and to gain knowledge of the shipping and scrap receiving process and an understanding of movement of materials, shipping of goods and services, consumables, and MRO supplies within an industrial environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with movements to and out of transload facilities
- Ensure billing is correctly keyed within SSAB’s system
- Participate in LTL negotiations and shipments
- Assist with accounts payables questions on vendor payments or discrepancies
- Assist with updating master agreements with trucking companies and save documents
- Assist with railcar track and tracing, utilize 3rd party systems to find, correct, and inform of problems
- Assist or update rail service scorecards for multiple facilities
- Assist with the export process through Houston and Chicago
QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies and Experience
Required:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Good analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Self-motivated
- Reliable attendance
Preferred:
- Knowledge of SharePoint
Education
Required:
- Completion of at least three (3) years toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Supply Chain or related field
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee will frequently be required to:
- This position operates primarily in an office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners. This role is mostly sedentary (average up to 8 hours per day), however, some filing and handling of office materials is required. This would require the ability to sit, stand and/or walk, bend, kneel, or stand, use of hands to finger, hold and handle, reach with hands and arms and to push / pull, lift or carry items up to 25 lbs.
The employee will occasionally be required to:
- Work outdoors and within the facilities, while wearing safety equipment and/or clothing for protection from hazards.
The position requires the following vision and hearing capabilities:
- Talking person to person, on the phone, and/or in group settings
- Hearing in person, on the phone, and/or in group settings
- Vision at near, mid, and far range
- Peripheral vision and depth perception
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Position is temporary/seasonal
- Full time, hourly, and is eligible for overtime
- Position works 8 hours a day, Monday-Friday
- Office presence required
- No travel required
