Responsibilities

The person filling this position will join our AI Innovation Squad, reporting directly to our Lead AI Scientists. In this role, the Applied Scientist in AI and Machine Learning will:

  • Make advances in NLP, CV and deep learning to build advanced dynamic models of student learning and assessment
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with product managers, assessment designers, psychometricians, research scientists, engineers, and analysts
  • Capitalizing on advances in AI and Machine Learning to develop high-value products, including automated educational content generation, classification of content against deep taxonomic representation, among others.
  • Impacting product development while working on and further developing a long-term research roadmapServing as major contributors to a long-term research roadmap
  • Conducting research and development using multi-sensory data
  • Making scholarly contributions through research publications, and providing technical documentation of data-science projects

 

Requirements and Skills

  • Advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics or related areas.
  • 2+ years of hands-on AI/ML experience (fresh PhD grads are encouraged to apply) in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics or related areas.
  • A strong knowledge of NLP and/or computer vision with experience in deep learning (Transformers, RNNs, LSTM, CNN etc.)
  • Experience with Transformer models such as GPT series, BERT, USE etc. 
  • Experience with LLMs and prompt engineering is a plus but not necessary
  • Strong programming skills in Python and or R, Java, C, C++
  • Strong grasp of object oriented programming (e.g. SOLID Principles)
  • Experience using cloud computing for machine learning and deep-learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, etc. 
  • Experience in source management, code reviews, unit testing, and related modern software development methodologies
  • Publication record in NLP, Machine Learning, Computer Vision or related areas is preferred.
  • Hands-on skills in sourcing, cleaning, manipulating, analyzing, visualizing and modeling of real data
  • Experience in educational applications is a plus but not necessary
  • A passion for making sense of user behavior, using any available methods
  • Creative problem-solver who is passionate about digging into complex problems and devising new approaches to reach results
  • Agile and innovative mindset
  • Ability to take initiative
