JOB SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer will be primarily responsible for managing and leading activities surrounding the compliance to engineering, industry, customer, and regulatory testing/requirements.  

The Quality Engineer will be required to lead and facilitate the development, implementation, and training of control/inspection plans, testing procedures, risk assessments (i.e. PFMEAs), APQP/PPAP documentation, continuous improvement plans (i.e. CARs), and audit plans/reports.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage/supervise the site quality lab associates and administrator.
  • Manage and improve the Laboratory & Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9001 & 17025, customer, industry, engineering, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audits finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage and maintain company quality documentation such as control/inspection plans, testing procedures, risk assessments (i.e. PFMEAs), and APQP/PPAP documentation.
  • Conduct/facilitate root cause analysis and implementation of associated corrective actions on production defects (i.e. NCRs), customer returns/complaints (i.e. RMAs), test evaluation (TE) results, and supplier issues.
  • Analyze existing processes to identify improvement opportunities.  Lead continuous improvement activities.
  • Lead/facilitate Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) development on new and existing processes and products.
  • Development, implementation, and training of quality plans, key characteristics review, gauging, customer and standard requirements in conjunction with design engineering.
  • Review/approve potential suppliers’ quality system information as part of the new supplier approval team(s).
  • Audit potential and existing suppliers’ quality system to develop or improve capabilities.
  • Completing and approval of FAI/PPAP requirements and communicating results back to suppliers/customers.
  • Train and develop the QC Lab Techs to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system.
  • Report on quality performance (CAR’s status, Supplier Performance, NCR trends etc.)

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Quality Engineer or Management role in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited school required.
  • Certificates in Quality preferred (i.e. Quality Auditor, Technician, Engineer, etc.)
  • Working experience with industry and regulatory agencies such as ASTM, UL, US EPA, CPSC, California ARB, etc.
  • Demonstrated/previous experience developing quality plans and documentations (i.e. test procedures/reports, audit plans/reports, PPAP/FAI, etc.)
  • Demonstrated/previous experience using quality problem solving tools such as 8D, 5 Why’s, Fishbone diagrams (Ishikawa), and process mapping.
  • Able to read, interpret, and institute testing protocols, industry & regulatory standards, engineering drawings, control/inspection plans, and standard operating procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, work within a fast-paced environment, and prioritize conflicting demands through proven systematic approach or processes.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees and outside contacts (Customer, Sister Company, Other departments, Suppliers);
  • Proficient working abilities within Microsoft applications: MS Project, Word, Excel and Power Point.
