Homeless Services Worker (Full Time & Part Time & Substitute Available)

About the Job:

As part of the Homeless Services team, The Homeless Services Workers (HSW) is an entry level position that plays an essential role in the day-to-day operations and success of the 40 Prado Homeless Services Center. Under the general supervision of the Homeless Services Workers Supervisor and or the Homeless Services Center & Interim Housing Manager, the HSW’s are responsible for identifying and providing direct services to individuals and families facing or experiencing homelessness. They support the agency mission by providing care and assistance to participants, as they improve their health and stability. They are trusted to assist in helping navigate participants towards self-sufficiency.

What you will be doing (Training provided):

  • You will help maintain a safe and secure environment by continually monitoring your immediate site and premises, ensuring your team and participants are following site-specific policies and protocols.     
  • You will screen participants upon entry and administer the participant sign in and data collection process.   
  • You will act as a participant resource by providing referrals to any available community resources.
  • You will coordinate and oversee participants assigned housekeeping duties are being completed.     
  • You will utilize prevention measures, conflict resolution skills and crises management techniques, with participants to help maintain an assault free environment.
  • You will be responsible for completing any necessary documentation, in an accurate and timely manner.     
  • You will work with your team and be trusted to use best judgment to make onsite decisions in the absence of the HSW Supervisor.     
  • You will participate in staff meetings and training sessions to ensure you are up to date on all policies, protocols and procedures.    
  • You will promote teamwork and assist when needed with training and providing direction to other staff or volunteers.


Minimum requirements:

  • High school Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in social services is a plus but not required.

Shifts:

  • Day Shift: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Afternoon Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
  • Overnight Shift: 11:00 PM - 8:00 AM

Our shifts times are crucial to continue 24/7 operations, however in time and based on performance, we allow the flexibility to set up your own days of the week you want to work… Monday, Wednesday, Friday, yes! Tuesday, Thursday, Yes! Friday, Saturday Sunday, Yes, Sunday-Thursday, Yes!

About 40 Prado:

Our goal at 40 Prado is to help individuals and families experiencing or facing homelessness improve their health, stability and move them towards self-sufficiency. We do this by providing basic needs and essential services to participants such as overnight shelter, meals, showers, laundry, mail and phone services, access to case management, additional specialized services and much more! We understand this work is not easy and that it cannot be done without a strong team, which is why we strive to provide continuous trainings, learning opportunities and the tools to be successful in this role, the program and our overall mission. Employment is contingent upon meeting all applicable job requirements and background requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. 
  • Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or sign a COVID-19 vaccination declination form.
  • Based on program, a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray may be required. 
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all applicable job requirements and background requirements. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment. 
  • Upon hire, agency staff will check the Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Agency staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work.
