About the Job:
As part of the Homeless Services team, The RCP Homeless Services Workers (HSW) is an entry level position that plays an essential role in the day-to-day operations and success of the 40 Prado Homeless Services Center. Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor the RCP HSW’s are responsible for working with the team and all other shelter staff to provide clients with needed shelter services aimed at stabilizing their physical health needs. They will support the agency's mission by providing care and assistance to clients, encouraging and facilitating self-sufficiency.
What you will be doing (Training provided):
- Alongside the RCP Team, RCP Nurse and shelter staff you will assist in completing intake and program assessment.
- You will assist in developing short or long term goals and plan of action.
- You will collaborate and partner with case managers and shelter staff to ensure a smooth transition for participants from RCP to the daily shelter population, once medically appropriate.
- You will help maintain a safe and secure environment by continually monitoring your immediate site and premises, ensuring your team and participants are following site-specific policies and protocols.
- You will screen participants upon entry and administer the participant sign in and data collection process.
- You will act as a participant resource by providing referrals to any available community resources.
- You will coordinate and oversee participants assigned housekeeping duties are being completed.
- You will utilize prevention measures, conflict resolution skills and crises management techniques, with participants to help maintain an assault free environment.
- You will be responsible for completing any necessary documentation, in an accurate and timely manner.
- You will work with your team and be trusted to use best judgment to make onsite decisions in the absence of the HSW Supervisor.
- You will participate in staff meetings and training sessions to ensure you are up to date on all policies, protocols and procedures.
- You will promote teamwork and assist when needed with training and providing direction to other staff or volunteers.
Minimum requirements:
- High school Diploma or GED.
- Experience in social services is a plus but not required.
Shifts Available:
- Day: 7:00am - 3:30pm
- Afternoon: 1:00pm - 9:30pm

Our goal at 40 Prado is to help individuals and families experiencing or facing homelessness improve their health, stability and move them towards self-sufficiency. We do this by providing basic needs and essential services to participants such as overnight shelter, meals, showers, laundry, mail and phone services, access to case management, additional specialized services and much more! Employment is contingent upon meeting all applicable job requirements and background requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire.
- A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment.
- Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated and boosted or have an approved exemption.
- Based on program, a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray may be required.
- Upon hire, agency staff will check the Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Agency staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work.
