CAPSLO Mission, Vision and Core Values

Position Summary:

Installs basic weatherization measures and performs minor home repairs on designated homes for funded weatherization programs. Supports CAPSLO’s mission by providing weatherization services directly for clients to help reduce utility costs.

Responsibilities & Duties:

1. Installs weather-stripping, caulking,showerheads, water heater blankets, insulation and other weatherization measures, and performs minor home repairs according to program specifications.
2. Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials used on the job.
3. Maintains accurate records of material inventory on vehicles.
4. Performs duties in shop and warehouse including carpentry, inventory, clean-up, and routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
5. Performs corrections on any failed inspections of weatherized homes and completes correction paperwork.
6. Inspects homes to determine amount of materials needed and repairs to be made.
7. Trains new and existing staff as required.
8. Attends meetings, workshops and trainings as determined necessary by Program Director
9. Maintains positive relations with customers,staff and utility company representatives.
10. Performs outreach and assessment for energy programs as needed.
11. Performs other duties as required.

Additional Responsibilities & Duties (Level II, III & IV):

1. Performs monthly inventory of shop and vehicles.
2. Acts as lead Installer when working with Installer I or Trainees on crew.

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements:

1. Must have High School Diploma or GED.

Level I:

  •  Requires a minimum of six months experience in home weatherization, home repair and/or construction.  Weatherization background preferred.

Level II:        

  • Requires a minimum of two years experience in home weatherization or comparable construction experience, and completion of Basic Weatherization training.

Level III:      

Requires a minimum of three years experience in home weatherization or comparable construction experience. Must have own power and hand tools needed to perform work, including power saws, drilland hand tools.

Other Requirements:

1. Must have a working knowledge of safe and proper use of power tools and equipment, both power and hand operated. 
2. Must have knowledge of basic safety procedures, use reasonable precautions at all times in the performance of duties, and act in such a manner as to assure maximum safety to oneself, fellow employees, and the public.
3. Must be self-motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision.
4. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
5. Must have a valid California Driver License and acceptable driving record. A DMV printout will be required.
6. Must provide Program Director with an acceptable health screening within seven days of commencing employment.
7. Must pass a health screening exam prior to beginning employment.
8. Must pass pre-employment drug test, must pass post employment alcohol and drug testing according to agency policy.
9. Must be able to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic level.
10. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices; and act in such a manner as to assure at all times maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients and children.
11. Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check, acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement, etc. Employment is contingent upon receiving a clearance from appropriate authorities.
12. Must understand, uphold, and continue working toward accomplishing the mission, strategic goals and performance measures of the agency.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

Position requires bending,stooping, twisting, reaching above and below shoulder level. Able to lift up to 60 pounds. Grasping and hand manipulation and occasional crawling, kneeling, climbing and overhead reaching and lifting and prolonged standing, sitting and driving. Work in dark cramped quarters and in conditions with exposure to dust, sawdust, pollens, fiberglass and cellulose insulation.

Compensation and Benefits Package

Medical, Dental, Vision, Flexible Spending Plan

CAPSLO offers benefits through a group medical, dental, vision, flexible spending account, life and AD&D insurance program. CAPSLO pays the full amount (100%) of the premiums to cover full-time employees, and half (50%) of the premiums to cover eligible part-time employees. Eligible employees may elect, at their own cost, to have medical, dental and vision insurance coverage for their dependents. Additionally, CAPSLO offers a Long Term Disability ("LTD") insurance program for eligible employees.

 

Retirement Savings Plan

CAPSLO offers eligible employees the opportunity to contribute a portion of their earnings to a Section 403(b) Retirement Plan. Employees are 100% vested upon enrollment into the plan. CAPSLO matches 60% of every dollar contributed up to an annual maximum of 15% of your annual salary (not to exceed IRS limits) after 6 months of employment.

 

Holidays

Twelve paid holidays during the course of the each calendar year. Employees also receive one extra workday off with pay as a "Personal Holiday."

 

Vacation/Sick Leave

CAPSLO awards 80-160 hours of vacation annually with a maximum accrual of 320 hours, depending on years of service. Paid Sick time is accrued at 8 hours per month (based on weekly hours) with a maximum accrual of 280 hours. CAPSLO also offers the opportunity to convert unused sick time to vacation and a vacation cash out for eligible employees once a year.
