Position: Camp Director          Salary: $19.50          

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is currently hiring Summer Camp Directors. Working at the Y, you will create exciting and impactful experiences for campers, build connections with your peers and Y professionals, expand your leadership skills, and have fun! This is a seasonal position for the months of June through August 2023. 
 
Some of the exciting things you will do as a Camp Director: 
Ø  Ensure all campers have a fun, enriching, and safe experience
Ø  Plan and implement the Y camp program in accordance with the goals and policies of the Y and the camp curriculum
Ø  Provide leadership to camp counselors, including training and daily supervision
Ø  Mentor camp staff
Ø  Ensure daily schedule of activites is carried out for all groups of campers
Ø  Conduct weekly team meetings and provide performance feedback on a daily basis
Ø  Ensure that all counselors have daily schedule and the appropriate supplies and resources to deliver a quality program
Ø  Be responsible for camper safety and security
Ø  Ensure adherence to the policies of the Y
Ø  Motivate, energize and encourage counselors to deliver outstanding programming and customer service daily
Ø  Participate in staff trainings and meetings as required
 
What you need to be a Camp Director:
Ø  Be able to work from the week before camp begins for training to the end of the final week of the season
Ø  High school graduate
Ø  21 years of age
Ø  Willing to participate in and obtain CPR and First Aid Certification
Ø  Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting
Ø  Meet the county/state licensing requirements
Ø  Y Day Camp Director certification/preferred 
Ø  At least three summers of experience in day camp, recreation, physical education, teaching, or working with school age children
Ø  Prior experience supervising staff
Ø  Work well with and in groups 
Ø  Able to effectively communicate with children and parents
Ø  Understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to Y character development

 
Physical requirements:
Ø  Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
Ø  Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children
Ø  Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds
Ø  Must have visual acuity to observe all children
Ø  Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test
