POSITION SUMMARY:

The Village Coordinator is responsible for the supervision of the Senior Counselors, Junior

Counselors, and volunteers as well as the safety and well-being of all campers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Carries through camp philosophy regarding supervision and administration of both the

day camp and overnight camp programs.

2. Holds regular meetings with the staff as a whole.

3. Organizes, carries through, and evaluates camp wide programs with the Program

Coordinator.

4. Schedules regularly conferences individual staff members and their evaluations.

5. Takes over primes responsibilities in absence of the supervisor, the Program

Coordinator.

6. Holds all Senior Counselors, Junior Counselors, and volunteers to the program standard.

7. Facilitates segments in staff training.

8. Ensures during overnight camp, the program is executed each day.

9. Complete any other duties deemed necessary by the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least 18 years old.

2. Must have completed three years in a resident camp setting or similar training.

3. Must have management experience.

4. Should have a varied background and experience in camping, aquatics, and working

with children.

5. Should have a general understanding of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit – YMCA

Camping Services goals and objectives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 Ability to stand, sit (including on the ground), and walk for extended periods of time.

 Ability to plan, lead and participate in all physical activities

 Ability to sit and stand from a seated position (including from the ground) when

interacting with children.

 Capability to be actively engaging with youth outdoors for the majority of the day.
