Trip Leader Coordinator Job Description

 

Job Title:Trip Leader Coordinator                   

Department:Camp Nissokone

FLSA Status:Stipend

Status:Seasonal

Reports to:Program Director

 

 

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Trip Leader Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the implementation of all off-site programs. This position supports the work of the Y, leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervises and trains all program participants and provides direct leadership for each program.
  2. Develops and implements weekly schedule to include a variety of youth related leadership activities.
  3. Develops a specific day to day program schedule prior to the start of staff training.
  4. Selects as well as oversees other leadership counselors who will be assisting in the implementation of the program.
  5. Continuously evaluate the mental, physical, and emotional health of program participants.
  6. Enforce establish safety regulations within each trip.
  7. Submits program evaluation with recommendations for the following year.
  8. Assists in overnight resident camp cabins – Girls Village or Boys Village – if needed.
  9. To consciously create a climate in camp that will foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and YMCA Camping Services.
  10. Complete any other duties deemed necessary by the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 21 years old.
  2. Has the ability to supervise and organize employees and volunteers under the program.
  3. Must have or be willing to complete the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course.
  4. Leave No Trace certification is preferred.
  5. Have prior documented experience on trips of similar size, duration, and locale in the area in which the off-site trips are taken (Ausable River, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Sleeping Bear Dunes / Manitou Islands National Lakeshore).
  6. Should have a varied background and experience in camping, aquatics, and working with children.
  7. Should have a general understanding of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit – YMCA Camping Services goals and objectives.

  • Ability to stand, sit (including on the ground), and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in all physical activities
  • Ability to sit and stand from a seated position (including from the ground) when interacting with children.
  • Capability to be actively engaging with youth outdoors for the majority of the day.
