YMCA Camp Kenan (CampKenan.com) overlooks beautiful Lake Ontario on 50 acres near Barker, NY.


YMCA Camp Weona (CampWeona.com) is nestled among 800 acres of hills and forests in Gainesville, NY.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health Director oversees the health and safety of campers and staff, provides supervision and counseling in the camp health center, and administers medications and first aid. Requirements: The Camp Health Director must possess a current license/certification as an RN, LPN, EMT, NP, PA, or MD. 

 

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a residential position where food and lodging are provided during hours of work. The work week follows the camper session which begins each Sunday and ends on Saturday with a 24 hour break in-between. Dates of employment include a week of training starting June 23, 2024, 7 weeks of program, and concludes on August 17, 2024.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assesses each camper’s ability to participate in camp activities upon arrival.
  2. Determines the health status of campers and staff on a continuing basis.
  3. Provides competent first aid and emergency treatment for sudden illness and injury.
  4. Maintains procedures to prevent and control the spread of contagious disease in camp.
  5. Ensures PPE compliance.
  6. Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the program/work areas.
  7. Acts as overall supervisor of safety and sanitation throughout the camp.
  8. Maintains the medical records for all campers.
  9. Establishes a procedure for medical treatment.
  10. Reviews standing orders with the camp physician.
  11. Establishes a working relationship with each staff member.
  12. Establishes procedures and maintains quality control of the infirmary.
  13. Participates in pre-camp training and instructs staff on first-aid treatment and infirmary procedures.
  14. Provides instruction on proper health care to campers.
  15. Sets and maintains regular infirmary hours.
  16. Adheres to and properly executes emergency procedures.
  17. Participates in staff meetings.
  18. Facilitates fire drills during the first 48 hours of each camp session and maintains records.
  19. Notifies management of problems immediately.
  20. Carries out other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Must be a New York State licensed Registered Nurse, New York State licensed Practical Nurse, or Emergency Medical Technician.
  3. American Red Cross Advanced First Aid and CPR/AED certification is preferred and required before starting work at camp.
  4. Experience in emergency medical treatment situations.
  5. Experience working with children and adults.

Daily pay rate:  $80
