POSITION SUMMARY:

Plans and implements the program design for the assigned childcare and camp programs.  Provides direction to staff and ensures a high-quality and safe experience for children and their parents. This is a full-time position.

 

GENERAL SCHEDULE:

Will be scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Organizes and oversees program activities and events. Plans and implements weekly lesson plans. Follows all YMCA program standards.
  2. Provides direction, coaching, and supervision to staff. Enforces policies and procedures.
  3. Serves as site coordinator and camp director for the assigned location(s) and fills in for staff absences.
  4. Develops and publishes the staff schedule for the assigned site(s). Manages time off requests and authorizes time sheets as per policy.
  5. Implements and maintains policies, rules, regulations, and standards as required by the NYS Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS), school administration, Department of Health, YMCA Buffalo Niagara, and any other regulatory agencies.
  6. Follows and enforces department protocol to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Maintains the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas. Ensures PPE compliance.
  7. Provides a safe environment for all activities. Enforces safety rules and reports/treats any injuries.
  8. Conducts site audits and reports deficiencies. Initiates changes to improve the quality and safety of the program.
  9. Maintains all program supplies and equipment.
  10. Reacts to customer feedback and implements plans to resolve problems. Finds appropriate and timely solutions to complaints.
  11. Performs various administrative tasks in compliance with YMCA procedures and regulatory agencies.
  12. Develops and maintains positive relationships with children, parents, staff, and school administration.
  13. Communicates regularly with parents, school administration, and the OFCS.
  14. Maintains all required certifications. Attends and participates in all staff meetings and training sessions.
  15. Carries out other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 21 years old.
  2. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS):
  3. Associate Degree in a childcare/development related field or two (2) years of college with eighteen (18) credit hours in a childcare/development related field.
  4. Two (2) years of direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.
  5. Able to lead activities for elementary school age children including group work, values education, and age- appropriate activities.
  6. An understanding of the YMCA and its mission, goals, and programs.
  7. Experience in program administration and staff supervision.
  8. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with participants, parents, school administration, and staff.
  9. American Red Cross, American Health Association, American Safety & Health Institute certification in CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant) and First Aid. Responding to Emergencies certification is preferred.
  10. Must complete and submit the following items prior to employment to meet NYS OCFS licensing requirements:
  • NYS Medical Statement (DSS4434) completed by a physician.  (Tuberculosis testing is mandatory.
  • State Central Registry (SCR) Form.
  • Undergo fingerprint process to conduct criminal history record check.
  • NYS Criminal History Review Form, NYS Director reference form, NYS Director Information Form, NYS Director Qualification Form.
  • SEL Check form
    1. Medication Administration Training (MAT) certification may be required.
    2. Competency with Microsoft Office software.
