Position Summary Description:

Responsible for overseeing all day-to-day activities in the HR department including full cycle recruiting, benefits, payroll, employee relations, and HRIS systems. Works closely with the HR Director and Core Leadership Team on all company initiatives. Manages HR and employee engagement programs and promotes a safe and productive culture. Maintains company policies and continues to improve internal processes. Provides and implements solutions to enhance the employee experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicates best practices relating to employment and labor policies.
  • Manages the HR department by overseeing day-to-day activities to ensure compliance and consistent processing.
  • Administers employee surveys to provide appropriate engagement activities through company events and programs.
  • Conducts wage reviews using surveys and develops recommendations to remain competitive.
  • Prepares recommendations for benefits offerings and partners with benefits vendors for open enrollment renewals and road shows.
  • Reviews all leave requests and determines applicable leave qualifications (i.e., FMLA, HFLL, TDI, WC, etc.) and prepares responses to employees if necessary.
  • Keeps abreast of all changes to Federal and State employment and payroll laws.
  • Works closely with managers on performance management including proper disciplinary actions while noting legal ramifications because of company actions against employees.
  • Provides recommendations for updates to the company employee handbook, drug and alcohol policy, sexual harassment policy, etc.
  • Consults with HR Director, vendors, and others including consultants or legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law.
  • Assists managers with workforce needs including promotions and succession planning.
  • Oversees the maintenance of human resources files.
  • Provides guidance, counsel and referral information to employees dealing with serious family, medical, and personal issues.
  • Serves as a witness or mediator between management and staff to ascertain human relations and work-related problems that adversely affect employee morale. Works with management to determine effective remediation techniques.
  • Advises and assists management in handling problems of discriminatory work practices in their departments.
  • Supports safety program including claims management, light duty placement, and collection of required forms and photos and partnership with adjusters and other third parties.
  • Oversees payroll and benefits processing.
  • Uses the Company’s Mission/Vision Statements and Core Values as their guiding principles.
  • Serves on committees for employee morale building.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; counseling employees, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Direct reports include: HR Specialist, HR Business Partner, HR Assistant, Payroll and Benefits Specialist

Education/Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent experience.
  • HR Certification: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • Five years of progressively responsible HR experience with at least two years in a managerial capacity.
  • Must possess a high level of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess exceptional “people skills”.
  • Demonstrated creative ability to design, develop, and implement Human Resource programs.
  • Uses common sense in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to be organized, multi-tasked, and be very flexible with changing priorities.
