Diesel Technician Level 1
Job Summary:
The Level 1 Diesel Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a fleet of diesel-powered vehicles. Under the supervision of experienced technicians this position is responsible for performing basic maintenance and minor repairs on trucks and trailers.
Essential Job Functions:

Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tire

rotations.

Conduct inspections to identify and diagnose minor mechanical issues according to Department of Transportation (DOT) Standards.

Assist senior technicians in making necessary repairs and adjustments.

Keep accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed.

Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Comply with safety guidelines and federal and state regulations at all times.

Use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment.

Read precision instruments such as voltmeters, digital multimeters, calibrators and other electronic diagnostic tools.

Troubleshoot and perform failure analysis of the component parts and systems on the truck or truck tractor; or the component parts and systems of the truck.

Communicate with drivers, dispatchers and management to determine which repairs are necessary, determine priority and provide estimated time of completion.

Apply knowledge of DOT, EPA, and OSHA rules and regulations.

Travel within designated region for service calls and temporary roadside maintenance

Participate in training programs to develop technical skills.

Skills/Education/Knowledge/Experience/Abilities:
Required:
-
High School Diploma or equivalent.
-
Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with acceptable driving record.

Must be able to pass Department of Transportation alcohol and drug screen.

Basic knowledge of diesel engines and automotive systems.
-
Willingness to learn and work in a team-oriented environment.

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
-
Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in varying weather conditions.

Ability to work any schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Ability to read and understand technical service manuals.
-
Ability to operate and interpret industry standard diagnostic software for heavy duty truck tractors.
Preferred:
-
Vocational or Technical training in diesel mechanics, welding, or a related field

Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Knowledge of Cummings Insite and PACCAR Davie software
-
1 year related experience
