Working at Watlow

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a great living and be part of a thriving cross functional community? Watlow is a global technology and manufacturing leader who provides world class engineering expertise through innovative thermal products and systems, enabling our customers to thrive. We are making a positive impact every day as our solutions enrich the lives of people everywhere. We have been providing breakthrough thermal solutions for nearly a century. Our corporate values guide us uncompromisingly to always do the right thing, continually learn and improve, respect everyone and lead with service and humility.

The Rotational Technical Excellence Program (RTEP) is a two-year rotational commitment designed to develop and accelerate the next generation of engineers. Our Systems Engineer will start their rotation in Winona, Minnesota focused on temperature controllers, power switching, and systems, and rotate to Saint Louis, Missouri in the second year. Following completion of the rotational program, the final location for this team member will be St. Louis, Missouri. As you move through the rotation you won’t be alone.  A team leader, mentor, and ambassador will be by your side to keep you on the road to succeed. PLUS – you’ll be building long lasting friendships with other new engineers in the RTEP program. Following the completion of the program you’ll take the technical and leadership skills gained from the rotation and transition into a non-rotational role.

About the Program

Year 1 – Winona, Minnesota

  • This year will be focused on building your controls foundation.
  • One of your main focus areas will be understanding Watlow’s current temperature controllers, power switches, and systems and how to apply them to solve thermal problems.
  • You will work on a technology and product development team to advance our next generation of control products and systems.
  • You will develop the necessary relationships with our electronics and controls team members in Winona so you can bring that knowledge to St. Louis
  • You will learn about all the functions in Watlow including hardware, software, firmware, and mechanical.

Year 2 – Saint Louis, Missouri

  • This year will be focused on full thermal systems and applying what you learned in year 1.
  • You will use your controls knowledge from year 1 to design, build, test and analyze thermal systems with a specific focus on the controls part of the system.
  • You will develop design approaches with a systems mindset.
  • You will gain more working knowledge of control systems and thermodynamics

Across both years, it will be key for you to grow your technical leadership skills in systems with a specific focus on electronics. Accelerate development work for ATS at Watlow, team up with New Product Development teams across multiple Watlow sites to research, design, produce, and test innovative new systems that will improve performance and increase value for our customers. Watlow’s Adaptive Thermal Systems are a suite of technologies that rely on deep advanced materials science knowledge and application.

Daily Responsibilities include:
