Energetics is seeking a Building Decarbonization Analyst to work on a variety of activities in our Washington, DC or Columbia, MD offices. The Building Decarbonization Analyst will work on clean energy, energy efficiency, and energy management programs serving the manufacturing, commercial and residential buildings sectors. This position offers an opportunity to support both national and global programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports clean energy stakeholder engagement programs for domestic and international clients
  • Prepares and maintains program materials, communications, reports, etc.
  • Synthesizes technical information for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Develops and contributes to technical communications (presentations, fact sheets, reports, briefings)
  • Advises clients on programs, strategies, and best practices for building decarbonization
  • Supports program administration, participant management and engagement, and tracking
  • Collects R&D project and program information, maintains master project database, and drafts program web content
  • Conducts data-related research and analysis of building sector energy consumption, trends, and energy and cost savings benefits of energy efficient building technologies
  • Updates and maintains database of building energy-related statistics, analyses, and supporting materials used for external communications
  • Supports in-person and virtual meetings with clients and stakeholders, including but not limited to preparing meeting materials, scheduling meetings, assisting the meeting facilitator, and summarizing proceedings
  • Provides project management support
  • Leads tasks and projects, delegating to support staff as appropriate
  • Conducts and summarizes literature reviews
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor


  • 5-7 years work experience (including internships) in a relevant field (or 3-5 years experience with a master’s degree)
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, engineering, science, policy, economics, or business field
  • Interest in energy efficiency and clean energy
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
  • Strong analytical (quantitative and qualitative), problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization and time management skills
  • Successful when working on self-managed tasks
  • Team player and self-starter
  • Successful at managing multiple projects and client priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Excels in a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience in a client-facing role, interfacing with external stakeholders and internal team members to achieve project goals and deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.


  • Knowledge of building energy efficiency technologies and building energy systems in residential (single family and multifamily) and commercial buildings
  • Work experience applying building science principles to design, manufacture, construction, commissioning, and/or operation of buildings
  • Familiarity with building decarbonization concepts, strategies, and best practices for both new construction and retrofits/renovations
  • Experience working at or collaborating with utility energy efficiency programs
  • Familiarity with building energy codes, code cycles, and model codes analysis
  • Understanding of green buildings workforce issues, initiatives, and business models
  • Experience in government consulting, supporting government organizations, public-private partnerships, or stakeholder engagement
  • Project management experience
  • Qualifications or project experience with facility energy audits (ASHRAE levels I, II, III)
  • Expertise in carbon footprint analysis and sustainability reporting
  • Proficiency in data visualization projects and related software (e.g., Tableau, ArcGIS, etc.)
  • Experience in running web meeting platforms (e.g., GoToMeeting, Zoom, Teams, etc.)
