Energetics is seeking a Critical Materials Technical Consultant to work with our team in supporting the Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office’s (AMO), Critical Minerals & Materials (CMM) Team. Upcoming CMM activities will include strategic planning, analysis, technical advising, and research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) program and Consortia support. Experience working with critical materials in the industrial sector is a priority (at least 3 years in industry required). The Critical Materials Technical Consultant will work in a highly collaborative atmosphere, interacting directly with government program managers. This position can be based in one of our existing offices, or working remotely in the U.S. 


  • Review and edit reports, talking points, articles, briefings, and presentations on subjects related to CMM.  
  • Research CMM related issues regarding industrial decarbonization 
  • Participate, network, and help coordinate stakeholder engagements, workshops and roundtables, and discussion with other experts in CMM-related fields such as permanent magnets, wide-bandgap semiconductors, and/or energy storage.  
  • Conduct technical merit review for RD&D and Consortia concept papers and proposals.  
  • Provide technical support and documentation for RD&D and Consortia program management activities.  
  • Work closely with AMO program managers and staff in a fast-paced team environment.  
  • Provide connectivity to other technical areas and cross-cutting programs through activities such as tracking of activities, identifying synergies, and organizing meetings.  
  • Support analysis related to CMM supply chains, related technical areas and markets.  
  • Developing and contributing to technical communications (reports, white papers, fact sheets, research summaries, briefings).  


  • Scientist or engineer with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience (3 years with Masters or Ph.D degree)  
  • Industrial CMM experience (experience in a research or industrial/manufacturing setting required, varied experience welcome)  
  • Interest in manufacturing energy efficiency, decarbonization, and/or clean energy technologies.  
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong technical writing skills and an ability to tailor written and verbal communications for technical and non-technical audiences.

  • 5-10 years of CMM experience 
  • Technical background and knowledge of industrial decarbonization, low-carbon technologies, and/or energy efficiency strategies.
