Engineering Support Technician (Controls) - 1st Shift

Position Summary

The Engineering Support Technician is responsible for providing production electrical and controls support. This includes modifying existing production line controls, installation of new line controls and assisting with contractors for effective project delivery. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be able to independently operate, troubleshoot, repair, modify PLCs and controls on all production lines, which entails the following, but is not limited to:
    • Complete any necessary documentation and maintain backups of all software.
    • Systems must be able to consistently meet standard production outputs.
    • Work with entire production team to ensure efficient and useable equipment.
    • Troubleshoot and repair all minor PLC and control discrepancies during the course of production.
    • Setup and modify electronic vision systems to inspect and reject product as required.
  • Maintain a clean and safe production line or work area at all times. Comply with and enforce plant safety, current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs), current standard practices, and all other plant policies.
  • Train team members in the area of machine operation.
  • Assist with any and all jobs in the Engineering and Maintenance Departments as required.
  • Develop and encourage a high level of employee involvement and continuous improvement. Participate in team meetings.
  • May be required to work directly with customers on new product startups.
  • Must be able to perform major overhauls of all PLC/Control Systems.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree from a recognized vocational program or technical school.
  • At least 3-4 years’ experience working with programmable logic controllers and equipment controls.
  • Must be fluent specifically with Rockwell Automation software.
  • Minimum 3-4 years' experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Fluent with PLC, HMI, and sub component communications protocol and machine networking.
  • Fluent in pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to work independently and function effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to function effectively in stressful situations.
  • Must be able to work long hours as necessary to achieve desired results.
