Summary

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for safely, reliably, and efficiently operating boilers, ancillary equipment, and multiple chilled water process. The ideal candidate must be familiar with cooling equipment facilities that utilize refrigeration systems and thermal storage to meet the comfort cooling requirements of our customer service locations as well as the distribution system. When assigned watch as Control Operator, the Stationary Engineer oversees the operation of assigned plant(s) and distribution system(s). This is an hourly full-time position. This position is in Baltimore, Maryland and reports to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities 

Maintain safe working conditions and identifies and corrects or reports unsafe conditions in work area. 
Perform assigned duties in accordance with all published Company operating and safety policies. 
Stands watch as Lead Control Operator, Control Operator, or Auxiliary Operator, as assigned, and oversees assigned personnel, if any, and equipment 
Control, maintain, and monitor pressure, temperatures, and flow of steam and chilled water systems, including boilers, chillers, feedwater, and distribution system. 
Take effective action to reduce the effect of equipment casualties. 
Ability to recognize, report, mitigate or correct equipment and system anomalies. 
Controls cooling tower, boiler and feedwater quality, taking steps to assure that prescribed water management procedures are being followed. 
Oversee fuel oil and natural gas transfer and storage at assigned plant. 
Writes work orders for identification and repair of plant equipment. 
Maintain required records of operations in a clear and precise manner. 
When assigned a Control Operator watch, oversees the operations at either a peaking or remote plant 
during the watch 
During backshifts, weekends, and holidays, may act as the primary representative for contact with customers and the public requiring accurate logging of complaints and resolution of the problems or passing of the information on to the appropriate supervisor immediately. 
Perform assigned maintenance and housekeeping. 
Oversee completion of all prescribed records and logs at assigned plants. 
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including proper operation of steam plant outfall(s) as 
well as cooling tower blow down. 
May be assigned to other facilities on a seasonal basis. 

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Maryland First Class Stationary Engineer's License 
Five years of experience in operating stationary or marine boilers 
Effective understanding of the principles and regulatory requirements for overseeing operations involving water management quality, outfall controls, fuel systems, asbestos controls, and metering. 
Demonstrated maturity, reliability, and judgement to stand watch as a Control Operator. 
Ability to communicate orally and in writing concerning routine paperwork. 
Must admit to company required pre-employment physical and drug screening.
Must have ability to work extended or rotating shifts if necessary.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
EPA – CFC Technician Certification – Universal or Type II and Type III minimum 

Physical Requirements

Ability to climb and tolerate heights up to 75 feet and to tolerate confined spaces.
Ability to lift, maneuver and transport up to 50 lbs. This includes turning valves that vary in weight. 
Ability to work in elevated temperatures.
Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing and insurable by Company's vehicle insurance carrier.
