Lead Data Engineer at UniGroup, C.A. in Fenton, MO. This position allows for telecommuting from anywhere in the United States.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize expertise to design, model, develop, construct, maintain and support data pipelines/database systems for analytical and business applications.
  • Provide support to software developers, database architects, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives and ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent across projects.
  • Identify and use technology to solve data problems.
  • Demonstrate ability to choose the right method, standards and techniques to use in delivery, practicality in solutions and creativity in solving problems.
  • Actively identifies and solutions impediments and opportunities that impact the velocity and quality of the work done on the data team.
  • Build simple solutions to complex business problems through technology innovation and process improvements while owning the full lifecycle of each product.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal ingestion and transformation of data in realtime/batch and uses programming languages/tools to assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements.
  • Ship medium and large features and foundational improvements with minimal guidance and support from other team members or leadership.
  • Collaborate with the team on larger projects.
  • Create smaller merge requests and issues by collaborating with stakeholders to reduce scope and focus on iteration.
  • Define and extend internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high scale data platform.
  • Develop, construct, test and maintain streaming and batch data pipeline architectures to build data marts.
  • Ensure efficient development of effective information systems through a variety of duties including projection of budgetary constraints, generation/presentation of users’ training material, and expansion of personal knowledge of applicable technical platforms and applications.
  • Evaluate vendor-supplied applications and deploys/integrates vendor-supplied software.
  • Generate architecture recommendations and the ability to implement them.
  • Improve and manage tech standards for code maintainability and performance in code submitted and reviewed.
  • Interacts with customers and other external stakeholders as a consultant and spokesperson.
  • Leverage Agile strategies to understand and solve business problems while collaborating on technical decisions and implantation.
  • Leverage knowledge of design patterns, architecture, infrastructure, and frameworks at an enterprise scale for fault-tolerant solutions with exceptional quality.
  • Perform technical interviews.
  • Speak up about technology risks identified and owns addressing them with the team.
  • Understand and implement data engineering best practices.
  • Use stream processing to produce value added business events for downstream consumers.
Education, License or Certification:
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (Application Development or related technical field) and 7 years of relevant experience.
Experience:
  • Must also have the following: 
  • 7 years of experience deploying production code as a Data or Application Engineer or similar occupation; 
  • proficiency with cloud-based data platforms, Git, SQL, python, and relational and non-relational databases.
