The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Youth Services Specialist for the Kentucky - Tennessee Territory in Murfreesboro, TN.

Job Summary

The Youth Services Specialist. assists in the planning, development, and overseeing of the day-to-day operations and activities in the Families First/2Gen Youth Development Department as well as performs any necessary administrative duties; provides reinforcement of training and general leadership during assigned shifts, ensures Youth Development Operations are in compliance with established departmental policies and procedures.  Under the direction and supervision of the Program Manager, the person in this position will work with individual families to help the achievement of children’s educational goals under the program guidelines. The coordinator will also monitor childcare workers, tutors, and all individuals interacting with participants in Youth Development Department, ensure children's and youth's safety, prevent accidents and enforce all Safe From Harm regulations.  The Youth Development Coordinator will also be responsible for planning out schedules for all Youth Development staff and volunteers, providing exceptional services, and for the youth department's safe and secure day-to-day operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Safe from Harm Policies. Knowledge of TANF and 2Gen objectives and State of Tennessee educational resources. Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and Children. Knowledge of Homelessness and its Impact on Children. Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences. Knowledge of the principles and practices of early childhood and youth curriculum development. Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children and youth. Ability to teach children and youth Christian values as well as general early childhood and youth education curriculum. Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood and youth programs and activities. Knowledge of the principles and practices particular to the department’s administration. Knowledge of general office principles, practices, and procedures. Ability to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Ability to motivate a spirit of unity, loyalty, and helpfulness within and among staff.

Education and Experience

Minimum associate degree in education or related field. And Two years’ experience working with child development programs in a church or preschool; or experience working with youth programs. Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to think clearly and quickly. Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple cases at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
