The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Store Manager for the Port ST. Lucie Store located in Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
Job Summary Plans, administers, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of a single Thrift Store with a limited staff ensuring compliance with established policies and
procedures; processes, displays, and prices donated items to ensure a reasonable financial return on the sale of store items; assists customers in a polite and friendly manner; prepares store displays that are attractive, neat, and orderly; rotates and re-stocks store merchandise to ensure quick turnover; ensures the accountability and security of all store items and funds. Plans, schedules, assigns, and evaluates work of Store and warehouse/sorting room personnel.

Administers and monitors the day-to-day operations of a small Thrift Store; supervises. volunteers, beneficiaries, and/or subordinate store personnel; trains and instructs staff in the proper methods and procedures for performing work; inspects work in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.
Plans, schedules, assigns, and evaluates work of Store Clerks, Sorting Room Workers, and other employees of the Thrift Store; instructs and trains employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with established store policies and procedures; assists employees in resolving operational or personnel problems; evaluates employees performance and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
Plans, supervises and participates in the layout and display of store merchandise; ensures that stock is routinely rotated and ensures that prices encourage the desired level of stock turnover; plans, organizes, and supervises the preparation of displays for special promotions or seasons; notifies the warehouse personnel of low-stock items.
Supervises and participates in the receiving, sorting, pricing, and distribution of donated items in the warehouse; ensures that items are processed in a timely manner and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directs customers to the proper loading/unloading area, may assist with hauling donations to the storage area; prepares and provides tax receipts as needed.
Prepares and delivers bank deposits
Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checks all store displays to ensure. that items are maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner; rotates. and/or rearranges stock as directed; returns items to the proper location after customers have handled.
Assists in cleaning. all display racks and shelves; sweeping and mopping floors; cleaning windows. and mirrors; ensures that the store is maintained in a clean and inviting. manner.
Opens and/or closes store doors in accordance with the store schedule.
Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information.
Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register print-outs; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.
Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensures that forms, bags, etc. are adequately stocked.
Prepares and maintains a variety of Thrift Store sales reports, records, logs, etc.; ensures the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the same.
Schedules donation pick-ups; ensures the accountability of all donated items; ensures donations are collected in compliance with established policies and procedures.
Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment for the store and warehouse operations.
Recruits and supervises volunteers working in the Thrift Store and warehouse.
Performs other related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the
principles and practices of retail store management.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer relations.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete bookkeeping records.
Ability to evaluate overall store operations in order to detect deficiencies and implement.
appropriate corrective action.
Ability to price donated merchandise reasonably and fairly.
Ability to meet Salvation Army driving requirements for insurance purposes and
qualified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle throughout the course of employment. in this position.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or G.E.D and Two years progressively responsible experience working in a retail store environment with
combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to perform mathematical computations.
Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy objects (50 lbs. or less) and ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
Store work is performed in a normal store environment where there are little, or no physical
discomforts associated with changes in weather.
Sorting Room work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
