The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Case Aide for the Houston Area Command, located in Houston, Texas.
Job Summary
The Case Aide is responsible for assisting homeless individuals and families participating in the Permanent Supportive Housing Program. The Case Aide assists connecting program participants with resources and care as directed by Case Management and Navigation staff along with helping families and individuals accessing services of the community care centers. The Case Aide helps to coordinate care with these homeless individuals and families by assisting the Housing Navigators, Case Management Coordinators, and Community Care Centers Staff in meeting their needs. The Case Aide serves as support and advocate for homeless individuals and families in order to acquire services that will enable them to functionally cope within their environment.
The position of Case-Aide described herein is fully funded by way of a grant/contract award in and between Harris County Texas and The Salvation Army. Any adjustments, suspensions, or withdrawal of available funding of the indicated funding arrangement will result in appropriate changes in the status of the position up to and including elimination of the described position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same. Knowledge of the general practices of community social service delivery. Skill in Microsoft Word and Excel applications with the ability to effectively create and maintain Spreadsheets. Ability to appropriately interact with program participants in order to serve their needs. Ability to comprehend and act within specific program guidelines and restrictions. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with existing staff, public and program participants. Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of people and remain sensitive to their concerns. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Education and Experience
Associate's degree or two years of college coursework from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Behavioral Science, or a related service related field, and/or Two years experience working in a social or public service environment with direct service related experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Certifications: None
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Ability to type and keypunch information into a computer. Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple tasks at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, computer and adding machine. Duties are usually performed standing. Standing may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Moderate amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.). Working Conditions: Work is performed in a normal service delivery environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
