The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Maintenance Technician I for the Houston Area Command, located in Houston, Texas.  

 

Job Summary

Performs a variety of routine repairs and maintenance work for buildings and grounds including minor heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work as well as routine maintenance and repairs.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved. Ability to learn by method of on-the-job training including ability to follow instructions. Ability to perform routine and minor repair and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds. Ability to use and maintain maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner. Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments. Ability to follow instructions and work with little or no supervision.

 

Education and Experience

High school diploma or G.E.D, and One to two years experience in performing maintenance tasks in a commercial building and grounds, Or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Valid State Driver’s License

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to exert the physical energy required to performing housekeeping and minor maintenance work. Ability to drive a vehicle safely to perform assigned tasks. Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, squatting, and lifting.  Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (more than 50 lbs.) frequently. Working Conditions: Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
