Job Summary
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to supervise, motivate and evaluate the
work of IT personnel. Knowledge of data and word processing concepts and
practices. Knowledge of operating system and database capabilities,
installation, and maintenance. Knowledge of the capabilities of microcomputers
and peripheral devices. Knowledge of the principles and practices of the
supervision and management of IT professionals. Operational and application
knowledge of the following: Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems. Knowledge
of the process employed to determine the applicability of a specific product to
a given functional area. Ability to visualize how a computer-based product may
best be used to address specific functional needs. Ability to analyze and
resolve problems with hardware and software. Ability to debug and troubleshoot
programming for Windows operating systems.
Ability to identify and obtain resolutions to
problems relating to a product and its application to specific needs. Ability
to determine compatibility between various software programs and hardware. Ability
to research, select, and purchase the most effective products to meet the
microcomputer needs of The Salvation Army all at an economical price. Ability
to plan and assign work. Ability to plan work priorities, evaluate work
performance and provide recommendations for improving productivity and
efficiency of work. Knowledge of the principles and practices of computer
programming logic. Ability to build and maintain effective working
relationships with Territorial Headquarter employees.
Education and Experience
Associate’s Degree in Information Technology or
related field or two years of technical college from an accredited college or
university – Required and eight (8) years progressively responsible experience
including IT Management and business operations leadership experience, staff
supervisory experience and broad technical expertise in all technology
operations and services supported by the assigned location or any equivalent
combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Work is usually performed in a normal office
environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with
changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the
like, but may be performed periodically in disaster service areas and camp
settings. Work requires traveling to various locations throughout the division
and staying overnight to complete installation projects or to troubleshoot
computer problems. Ability to travel to Corps/Centers located throughout the
division. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking,
standing, lifting, walking up step ladders, and carrying light to medium
objects (less than 25-60 pounds) 10 - 15% of work time.
