Driver & Food Pantry Worker
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Driver/Food Pantry Worker for the Kernersville Corps, located in Kernersville, North Carolina. This is a part-time position.
Responsible for the food pantry which includes maintaining a consistent state of cleanliness and order in all areas, packing and unpacking items to be stocked on shelves, keeping an accurate count of inventory and investigating any discrepancies; reports to the Director of Social Services and/or acting supervisor on duty.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Knowledge of effective record-keeping practices and procedures. Knowledge of the English language including proper grammar and punctuation.
Knowledge of food safety practices and principles. Ability to learn and become proficient in specific computer software. Ability to maintain an efficient and organized filing system to ensure that items can be retrieved in a timely manner. Ability to plan and coordinate the distribution of food and commodities to the public. Ability to recruit, train, and supervise volunteers. Ability to maintain an adequate inventory of food and commodities to meet the needs of the program. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Driver’s license. Clean driving record.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, lifting, and walking on a frequent change basis. Moderate amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light to heavy objects (up to 75 lbs.) frequently. Work is usually performed in a normal food pantry environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, with the exception of driving conditions.
