JOB SUMMARY:

Provides daily supervision, monitoring, reporting, and technical support services to clients in a residential substance abuse treatment setting; maintains appropriate records in addition to ongoing written and verbal communication with clinical and other professional staff in relationship to daily client activities; facilitates an emotional and physical environment conducive to enhancing positive client morale and stabilization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This job description should not be interpreted as all-inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. Monitors daily activities and ensures client program participation; ensures the safety, cleanliness, and orderliness of program environment; ensures clients maintain appropriate attire and personal hygiene; observes clients for safety, health and risk potentials.

Communicates with members of the clients’ treatment team as may be requested for purposes of providing additional client information; communicates all major incidents to clinical supervisor and primary counselor in writing and orally; facilities ongoing information exchange.

Monitors facility egress and ingress of clients to include the examination of all personal belongings either brought in by, or brought to, the client; monitors visitors on visitation.

Transports clients to and from parole, medical, dental, and mental health appointments.

Transports clients from prison facilities throughout the State of Texas to the Carr P. Collins Social Service Center for program admission.

Provides necessary crisis intervention; ensures 24 hour monitoring of clients.

Maintains and monitors inventory of linens, hygiene products, medical, furnishings, office supplies, technical

and clinical program forms.

Monitors clients’ behavior, attitude and social interaction with peers and staff.

Conducts discharge of clients according to program procedures.

Performs diagnostic Breathalyzer testing and collects samples for urinalysis.

Documents and maintains clients’ self-administration of medication.

Participates in required continuing educational programs.

Distributes written communication and documentation to clinical staff.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitors clients’ as prescribed and in accordance with program policies and procedures.

Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

and

One year experience performing security or social service work is preferred.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid Texas Driver’s License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of causes and treatment of substance addiction and abuse.

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure.

Ability to monitor client behavior and daily activities to determine when crisis intervention is needed and to effectively communicate client behavior to clinical and supervisory staff.

Ability to effectively and efficiently organize and maintain records.

Ability to use discretion and independent judgment when either addressing or resolving Substance Abuse

Program matters.

Ability to maintain security of confidential records.

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to relate well with a variety of people.

Ability to exercise good judgment and make responsible decisions with a minimum of supervision.

Ability and willingness to work from a team approach.

Ability to empathize and serve as a role model.

Ability to exhibit personal integrity, mature judgment, and emotional stability suitable to the job.

Ability to provided evidence of no substance abuse for a minimum of two (2) years.

Ability and willingness to become involved in a twelve-step program is preferred.

Ability to adhere to The Salvation Army Mission Statement by practicing respect, esteem, and dignity toward all mankind.

Ability to operate and answer a multi-line telephone.

Ability to stay awake and alert while on shift.

Ability and willingness to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture, and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.)

Work is performed in a substance abuse treatment program environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
