Secretary I & Accounting Clerk
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Secretary I / Accounting Clerk for the Corpus Christi Corps, located in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Performs a variety of administrative and/or clerical duties to ensure a smooth operation of the Corps; reviews, verifies and reconciles accounts to verify accuracy of records; proofs, posts and files on behalf of the field; performs accounting and data entry functions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of basic accounting and general office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of Great Plains financial software.
Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to other employees requiring assistance.
Ability to function within a computerized, double entry, full accrual accounting environment.
Ability to organize and maintain files of accounting records.
Ability to apply attention to detail and to perform assigned work at a level of proficiency that will limit the impact of errors.
Ability to process financial documents in compliance with established policies and procedures.
Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Two to three years clerical accounting and/or administrative experience,
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.
