The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Director of Development for the Central Arkansas Area Command, located in Little Rock, Arkansas.


Job Summary

Plans, develops, implements, administers and monitors fundraising programs for Central Arkansas Area Command.  Develops and secures funds to achieve/surpass fundraising goals through a variety of financial development strategies and functions including:  (1) individual major gifts and individual donor upgrading; (2) corporate gifts  and sponsorships;  (3) foundation support for specific programs and projects; (4) capital campaigns; (5) special events; (6) United Way Funding; and (7) City, County, State, ad Federal Government grants.  


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and philosophy

Knowledge of the modern principles and practices of individual, corporate, foundation, direct response, and special events fundraising

Knowledge of and ability to interpret charitable solicitation laws.  The Salvation Army policies, and local, state, and federal laws as they relate to fundraising and charitable solicitation.
Knowledge of donor records management and administration, as well as data and trend analysis

Knowledge of the principles and practices of budgeting and financial management.

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, including Area Command and Divisional staff, donors, Advisory Board members, corporations, and community philanthropists 


Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with specialized training in fundraising management And Four to six years’ experience of progressively responsible experience in fundraising and fundraising management.

OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions   

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Ability to understand and manage budgets and financial matters

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
