Job Summary

Supervises, plans, develops, coordinates, prioritizes, and monitors the day-to-day operations of the warehouse, sorting room, and As-Is Auction in accordance to The Salvation Army’s policies and procedures; ensures that these areas are properly staffed, clean, safe, and operating efficiently.

 

Supervises, coordinates, and monitors with senior management the day-to-day operations of the warehouse, sorting room, and As-Is Auction.

 

Supervises and monitors the day-to-day operations of the sorting room to ensure that all employees and beneficiaries practice appropriate safety measures; develops methods and procedures for performing work that eliminates unnecessary health risks.

 

Supervises and monitors the day-to-day productivity levels of warehouse operations and allocate staff accordingly; ensures the accountability and security of all warehouse items and equipment; ensures the stores receive needed merchandise.

 

Supervises the unloading and distribution of all donated items; ensures that donated items are properly distributed and stored; determines items to be taken to the dump or As-Is and coordinates the same; ensures that all items that can go to the stores are delivered to the stores.

 

Supervises and inspects the warehouse, dock, shops, and sorting area to ensure that they are all kept clean and orderly.

 

Supervises and monitors the sorting, pricing, and packaging of donated merchandise for distribution to stores; ensures that merchandise is properly sorted by category and condition.

 

Plans and supervises the work of sorting room personnel; monitors work in progress upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides salary and hiring/firing recommendations.

 

Trains and instructs supervisors and employees in the proper methods, procedures, and safety precautions in accordance to The Salvation Army’s policies and procedures.

 

Delegates assignments to employees and beneficiaries to maintain maximum production with existing staff.

 

Oversees and monitors donated items to ensure items are unloaded, sorted, priced, and distributed in a timely and economical manner.

 

Reviews merchandise scheduled for As-Is auction; inspects all As-Is merchandise to ensure that it is not store quality merchandise.

 

Serves as liaison to senior management and works with senior management to control costs including, but not limited to, supplies, salaries and overtime, dump costs, loss prevention, equipment, truck repairs, and fuel; assists senior management in resolving operational challenges and personnel issues.

 

Oversees staff meetings and provides updates as to the status of the employees and beneficiaries performance and challenges faced in the production area.

 

Leads production meetings with production staff to discuss various issues in the production area.

 

Plans, coordinates, and monitors the distribution of stock from warehouse to stores; ensures that each store receives appropriately balanced stack and replenishes low-stock merchandise in a timely and economical manner.

 

Prepares, maintains, and submits various reports for senior management.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of general principles and practices of effective retail sales management. Ability to inspect donated items and determine reasonable and fair prices. Ability to supervise, lead, and motivate the work of subordinate employees. Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions, policies, procedures and/or guidelines in various manuals. Ability to apply attention to detail and to perform assigned work with minimal errors and within established time constraints. Knowledge of the principles and practices of general supervision and management of personnel.

 

Education and Experience

High School diploma or G.E.D., preferred and two years of progressively responsible experience working in a warehouse or retail establishment with supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language. Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to operate general office equipment including a telephone, typewriter, computer and adding machine.

 

Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) merchandise, materials, and supplies on a frequent basis. Ability to push or pull heavy (50-200 lbs.) merchandise, materials, and supplies occasionally.  Work requires continued walking, sitting, twisting, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, standing, and climbing.

 

Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts with noise, dust, and other similar issues.
