The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Program Aide Boys and Girls Club for the Houston International Corps, located in Houston, Texas.

 

Job Summary

Leads children’s activities at an after-school program, including classroom training, tutoring, sports activities, bible study, computer programs and specialized programs; prepares and serves children lunch and snacks; assists in leading field trips; maintains the cleanliness of the after-school area; transports passengers in a Salvation Army vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development. Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general childhood education curriculum. Ability to plan, develop and implement effective childhood programs and activities. 
 

Education and Experience

High school diploma or G.E.D. required, and two years of experience teaching child development programs, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Certifications: Valid State Driver’s License (Preferred) CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain), Food Handlers Certification (Preferred), Lifeguard Certification (Preferred) 
 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to observe children and ensure their safety. Ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle safely observing all laws, regulations, and policies. Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing and walking on a frequent change basis. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.  Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.

Position is 25 hours a week.
