The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a part time Cookfor the Center of Hope in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Job Summary

The Cook will assist with the overseeing of the kitchen, food preparation and food supplies including supervising volunteers and residents working and eating in the kitchen area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the Dept. of Health Regulations and Codes, Knowledge of FEMA and USDA Requirements, Knowledge of weights, measurements and temperatures, Sensitivity to cultural differences, Sensitivity to poverty issue, Ability to work independently, Good interpersonal relationship skills, Some basic computer skills

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED

Required Minimum of 1 year experience cooking for large quantities for up to 50-100 individuals/guest.

Licenses and Certifications

Approved Background Check Required

Valid NC State Driver’s License

Approved Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Report

First Aid and CPR

Serve Safe Certification within first 90 days of employment

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to stand, walk, climb steps or ladder, lift up to 50 pounds and carry bulky items as needed throughout the work day.

Work is performed in a normal residential facility environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Additional Information

Work Schedule:

The Center of Hope Kitchen serves meals to our residents 7 days per week.

The work schedule is for 29 hours per week with flexibility between 5:00am and 7:00pm
