HOUSING STABILIZATION SPECIALIST - CHARLOTTE, NC
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a full time Housing Stabilization Specialist for the Charlotte Area Command,Women’s and Childrens Shelter, located in Charlotte, NC.
Job Summary
Provide stabilization case management services to individuals and families transitioning from emergency shelter with the goal of assisting them in attaining and maintaining an independent housing placement. Provide stabilization case management services to individuals and families placed into housing by Coordinated Intake Center and referred to The Salvation Army for case management. Provide housing location services to clients when needed. Provide initial and ongoing
assessment and regular follow-up with referrals and linkages to community based
services
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of community resources.
Knowledge of social work concepts and procedures.
Sensitivity to low-income individuals of diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work independently and with a team.
Ability to organize work priorities.
Ability to work well with the homeless population.
Ability to handle multiple duties simultaneously.
Interact well with staff and community partners.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Have assessment, advocacy and case management skills.
Have computer fundamentals.
Ability to maintain up-to-date computer database records.
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
Ability to operate a computer and telephone effectively.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work; Master’s degree preferred, and Three years of experience in case management. Background working with the homeless population a plus.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver's License (Must meet MVR requirements)
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort require associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, except for driving conditions.
