Job Summary: 

Supervises and participates in the day-to-day operations of the Store and ensures compliance with established policies and procedures. Oversees the recruiting, training, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and supervision of all store employees. Ensures the accountability and security of cashier funds. Maintains the neatness and attractiveness of store merchandise; ensures that displays remain well-stocked. Supervises and oversees the sales floor, warehouse, and dispatch functions. Assists customer in locating items and prices and explains store policy. Assists employees in resolving routine problems and performing special assignments.

Supervision and Training (70%):

Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Family Store; supervises, trains, and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.

 Provides input which is a determining factor in employees who are hired, terminated, provided compensation adjustments, promotions, bonuses, disciplinary actions, and evaluates employees under his/her authority.

Supervises and oversees the sales floor, warehouse, and dispatch functions.

Trains, coaches, and motivates store employees; provides regular feedback in verbal and written form. 

Supervises cashier activities to ensure that all customers are treated in a polite and friendly manner; trains cashiers on the register in ringing up, recording, and receipting sales; assists cashiers and store clerks in resolving problems; ensures the security and accountability of the cashier funds; supervises and trains employees in preparing daily sales reports and bank deposits.

 Oversees, prepares, maintains, and monitors work schedules for all store employees.

Plans, supervises and participates in the layout and display of store merchandise; ensures that stock is routinely rotated and ensures that prices encourage the desired level of stock turnover; plans, organizes, and supervises the preparation of displays for special promotions or seasons; notifies the warehouse personnel of low-stock items.

Supervises and trains employees in maintaining the store displays to include, but not limited to arranging, rotating, and restocking displayed items to ensure the displays remain in a plentiful, neat, and an orderly manner for customer convenience and store attractiveness. 

Supervises the unloading of incoming donations; ensures that items are properly sorted, stocked, and/or discarded in accordance with established policies and procedures; inspects appliances and furniture for needed repairs; supervises and trains employees in performing repair work and bailing clothes.

 Be well-versed in, and ensure compliance to, Guide to Family Store & Donation Centers Operations manual and all other Salvation Army policies and procedure manuals including verbal and written warnings.

Supervises and oversees the sales floor, warehouse, and dispatch functions.

Customer Service/Meeting/Daily Paperwork (30%):

Opens and/or closes store doors in accordance with the store schedule.

 Assists customers in locating items and prices; assists customers donating items; explains store policy and ensures compliance with the same.

 Oversees, prepares, reviews, monitors, and maintains files and various store reports, records, forms and other similar documents including community service records; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.

Oversees, reviews, and monitors daily stores sales figures and reports.

 Oversees and documents with Human Resources, all employee matters warranting disciplinary action, warnings, and or terminations.

 Attends all production and store meetings.

Maintains a positive working atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner that will establish and promote a professional working relationship with vendors, donors, customers, beneficiaries, co-workers and management.

 Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment for the store and warehouse operations.

 Attend manager meetings and keep store personnel informed of new policies and directives.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of retail store management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer relations.

 Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete bookkeeping records.

 Ability to evaluate overall store operations in order to detect deficiencies and implement appropriate corrective action.

 Ability to price donated merchandise reasonably and fairly.

 Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.

 Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.

Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in the English language.

Ability to operate a cash register. 

Ability to accurately and timely perform routine mathematical computations and count change.

 Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 Ability to successfully work with a variety of personalities and people in a positive manner.

Education and Experience:

 High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred and experience working in a retail store preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 None

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.

Work is performed in a stockroom, warehouse, or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in whether; there are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors and the like. 

Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Work may require frequent travel.
