Custodian/Janitor

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Custodian/Janitor for the Athens Corps, located in Athens, GA.

Job Summary

Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies; Sweeps, vacuums, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks; Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures; Cleans kitchen and dining area; washes dishes; cleans and defrosts refrigerator; cleans stoves and ovens; Stocks and sorts pantry items; Empties trash cans regularly; collects trash from grounds; Assists in monitoring light fixtures to ensure all light bulbs are in working order; replaces light bulbs as necessary;

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform general maintenance and cleaning activities for buildings and grounds; Ability to follow instructions and work independently; Ability to read and communicate the English language

Education and Experience

No formal education or experience required; Six (6) months experience performing general housekeeping duties; Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver’s License

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements; Ability to exert the physical energy required to performing housekeeping and minor maintenance work; Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing; Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt, and dust, and/or disagreeable sights and odors.
