Lead Wrangler

Location: Midlothian, TX (Camp Hoblitzelle)

Position Type: Regular Full Time

Pay Range: $15.51 - $19.39

About this opportunity:

Serves as the lead worker for all Wrangler staff; assists the Wrangler Supervisor in planning and performing all levels of care for Camp livestock to include daily feeding and grooming; monitors health of livestock and provides/coordinates appropriate veterinary care as needed; coordinates and leads horse trail rides ensuring the safety of both riders and horses; facilitates horsemanship program to reinforce the values and Christian principles of The Salvation Army; inspects pasture, trails, fences, corral, etc. daily and performs/coordinates needed repairs.

Key responsibilities:

• Supervisory Responsibilities (10%)
• Livestock Care and Maintenance Responsibilities (60%)
• Camp Upkeep Responsibilities (30%)

What we are looking for in you:

• High school diploma or G.E.D., and Two years experience in horsemanship and performing livestock management work including experience with basic veterinary practices, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Valid State Drivers License
• CHA, CCHI, or AHSE Certification (preferred)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively. Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, squatting, and lifting.  Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (up to 60 lbs.) frequently and up to 90 lbs. on some occasions. Work requires working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
