SSAB is seeking a Production Operator for its Axis, Alabama facility. This position performs all tasks involved in the production of SSAB steel in the area in which assigned. The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain a safe and clean work space
  • Follow established safety rules and regulations
  • Recognize, avoid, and where possible eliminate hazards within the workplace
  • Attention to detail
  • Perform various tasks to set up, operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on assigned machines
  • Perform periodic checks on equipment and solve problems as detected
  • Work with others in order to ensure that equipment is in proper working order
  • Willing to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Competencies and Experience

Required

  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Basic mechanical skills and aptitude
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Conscientious with a good attendance record

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Preferred

  • 3+ years of industrial experience
  • Prior experience in heavy industry, construction or similar field
  • Prior experience operating cab crane, forklift, hand torch and hilti gun

 Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Ability to work rotating 12 hr. shifts (nights, days, weekends, holidays)
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
  • Must be able to stand, lift, bend, twist, walk and reach frequently
  • Must be able to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb frequently
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment and/or clothing for protection (PPE) daily
  • Must be able to work in a high noise environment where the use of hearing protection is required
  • Must be able to work in confined areas, high places, and around equipment in motion
  • Must be able to work indoors/outdoors and in extreme hot or cold conditions
  • Must be able to work amid fumes, dust, dirt, and smoke
  • Must be able to work amid mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Must have depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must have the vision capability to see near, midrange, far and peripheral
  • Must be able to talk and hear person to person, on the phone/radio and in a group setting

Education

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
