Job purpose

 

This position is responsible for design and creation of products to exceed customer expectations for the benefit of the company brand.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Develop and maintain the product portfolio for Hardox, Strenx, Raex and distribution offer to ensure long-term competitiveness and cost efficiency.
  • Take part of the creation of the annual Product offer plan and execute the relevant parts.
  • Develop the grades to fit short and long-term targets; this can include, short-term cost savings measures on certain grades to long-term development of completely new grades.
  • Drive the development of product quality and core properties; this can include, harmonizing product properties between mills and process routes, such as surfaces, residual stresses, mechanical properties, chemical composition, etc.
  • Constant market analysis of competing products to determine and establish customer needs and requirements; to include, market trends and conditions.
  • Identify customer problems and create functional prototypes offering a solution.
  • Coordinate prototype submissions with relevant personnel for approval; to include, overseeing the mass production of successful prototypes.
  • Analyze feasibility, costs, and return on investment for product ideas.
  • Manage the budget requirements for projects.
  • Foster relationships with Sales, Technical managers, Customer and Product Support, Quality and Marketing

 

Qualifications

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
  • 5+ years of proven experience as a product engineer in the industry is valued
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organized
  • Very good understanding of the entire product development cycle and possess current knowledge of technical advancements to implement during the engineering phase
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Strong analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, able to delegate, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive
  • Maintains good public relations by displaying an attitude of dedication, courtesy and professional competence that will be recognized as such by customers
  • Portfolio of successful past projects required
  • Hands-on attitude with analytical mindset, creative and passionate about creating solutions to customer problems
  • Current/active driver’s license

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
  • 5+ years of proven experience as a product engineer in the industry

 

Working conditions

 

Travel 10% of time to trade shows, customer seminars, other SSAB sites, including International Travel
