PW Assistant Housekeeper

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of the Hotel and Golf Club, to include guest rooms, public areas and back of the house. Order cleaning supplies and equipment. Maintain an inventory of guest room supplies, furniture, fixtures and uniforms. Train, evaluate, counsel and discipline employees in his/her department. Assist the Executive Housekeeper in the day-to-day operations of the department and assume his/her responsibilities in his/her absence.

Essential Duties:

  1. Hire, train, evaluate, counsel and discipline department staff.
  2. Manage/schedule department staffing levels based on occupancy and budgetary guidelines.
  3. Monitor daily functions to ensure all areas are cleaned and maintained according to standards set by the Hotel and Golf Club
  4. Inspect VIP rooms, guest rooms, corridors, lobbies, function rooms, public facilities and laundry areas for cleanliness and appearance.
  5. Evaluate condition of furniture, fixtures, equipment, linen items, supplies and décor, etc. Make recommendations and assist in the coordination of projects.
  6. Provide clear direction, instruction and guidance to subordinates verbally and via telephone.
  7. Respond to housekeeping concerns from guests or other departments in a timely manner and resolve issues satisfactorily.
  8. Review, approve and verify department payroll.
  9. Ensure safety training and standards are maintained and safety procedures are followed.
  10. Assist Executive Housekeeper in the day-to-day operations of the department.
  11. Assume duties and responsibilities of the Executive Housekeeper in his/her absence.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
  13. Basic level computer skills in Word, Excel, and experience in Hotel operating system such as Opera helpful.

Other Duties:

  1. Maintain an open door policy and monitor employee relations.
  2. Maintain inventories of amenities, chemicals and other supplies to ensure items are in stock and reorders are completed in a timely manner.
  3. Coordinate with the Laundry department to ensure room linens are picked up and delivered to meet guest room needs.
  4. Consult with outside contractors regarding rehabilitation or general maintenance of public and guest room areas.
  5. Install inventory controls for uniforms, linens and supplies to be monitored by issuance procedures and purchasing.
  6. Monitor issuance of keys and maintain inventory.
  7. Conduct regular department and daily briefings.
  8. Maintain hotel’s lost and found system.
  9. Maintain department bulletin boards.
  10. Comply with energy conservation program management.
  11. Report areas in need of repair or maintenance.
  12. Report all suspicious persons or actions, hazardous conditions, etc. to the Security Department.
  13. Respond to guest questions. Provide guest assistance, directions and information as requested.
  14. Supervise the operation of linen, uniform, supply and storage rooms.
  15. Attend Operations and Rooms meetings and other meetings in absence of the Executive Housekeeper.

Working Conditions:

  1. Indoors, air-conditioned office or rooms.
  2. Occasional handling of commercial detergents, cleaning solutions and cleansers.
  3. Frequent walking and inspecting outdoor areas of hotel.

Work Hours:

  1. Normally works 8am to 5pm or 12pm to 9pm, days off may vary.
  2. Must be able to work over 40 hours per week.

Equipment Use:

  1. Computer, telephone, calculator, printer, fax and other office equipment.
  2. Knowledge of cleaning equipment for areas such as carpet and floor care

Mental and Physical Demands:

  1. Strong organizational skills
  2. Require initiative in managing department in compliance with policies, practices and procedures.
  3. Provide guidance and direction to housekeeping employees, training and supervising their work.
  4. Require ability to prioritize daily tasks and work assignments for the department.
  5. Require considerable walking and standing to inspect the property and supervise cleaning.
  6. Require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of cart, equipment and linen to assist housekeepers in cleaning rooms or public areas.

Communication Demands:

  1. Must be able to effectively communicate with guest, employees and other departments to give direction or resolve concerns.
  2. Effectively disperse information at department briefings and meetings.
  3. Must be able to train employees, write manuals, notices, and memos.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  1. Knowledgeable in cleaning methods, materials, chemicals and sanitary practices.
  2. Three years or more work related experience
  3. Three years or more supervisory experience.
