MKR Marketing and Public Relations Manager


Primary Responsibilities: Formulate, manage, and implement marketing strategies for all potential distribution channels which include: online digital marketing, social media, static media, network radio, and other media. Collaborate with the PR Agency of Record to coordinate local/national pitches with premium and luxury media writers and editors. Create compelling storylines and marketing materials to support resort experiences and launches. Manage all MKR websites and e-commerce development with Marriott Digital Services, and other outsourced marketing initiatives. Evaluate and secure opportunities to produce targeted marketing which yields a high distribution and revenue return. Market and promote resort wide initiatives with all distribution channels to maximize exposure and conversion for internal business units which include food & beverage, activities/experiences, guestroom operations, and human resources.


Essential Duties:

  1. Formulate and execute guestroom focused marketing which includes, but is not limited to, print/digital promotions, national & local email campaigns, email/direct marketing initiatives, websites, social media, and third party marketing.
  2. Develop and facilitate marketing strategies, e-commerce development and public relations (PR) opportunities, for all MKR business units: Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort and Mauna Kea Resort (which includes Mauna Kea Golf Course, Hapuna Golf Course, Mauna Kea Seaside Tennis Club, Mauna Kea Residences, Mauna Kea Club Services, restaurants, special events and additional onsite experiences)
  3. Collaborate with customer (CRM) and digital marketing managers (Marriott MDS) to strategize and execute the sales plans for email, website, SEO, and PPC marketing, using data and online analytics.
  4. Evaluation of ROI (return on investment) and ROAS (return on ad spend) for each marketing initiative, with measurable results when possible, and adapt any future strategies on results provided
  5. Collaborate and strategize with the Marriott Digital Services (MDS) account team to improve our M.com websites, PLUS digital platform marketing, and Online Travel Agency marketing, with a strategic goal to increase digital impressions, and booking conversions.
  6. Website URL management. Ongoing audits of website content to ensure it is accurate and updated. Work with department heads to update all necessary information with copy, imagery, etc. as well as lead brainstorming sessions to generate content that will ultimately lead to a purchase.
  7. Creation and strategy implementation of Social Media marketing for the resort, which includes postings, vetting of influencers and building an influencer asset image and video library.
  8. Secure alignment with internal stakeholders by networking with team and associates to receive input as well as effectively communicating the strategy, plan, and execution of deliverables with leaders.
  9. Develop and manage all media advertising placements in print, digital, social media, television, radio and other internet platforms which will increase the exposure of MKR and growing brand development
  10. Oversee public relations local/regional pitching efforts with oversight of PR agency, plus writing and editing press releases and other required communications. Assist and manage the PR agency to provide direction for media visits, media entertainment and creating itineraries.
  11. Strategize alongside the Director of Sales and Marketing and PR team to secure top tier media visits and familiarization media groups.
  12. Collaborate with both Marriott (MDS) and the digital marketing agency to create various website strategies to grow distribution and improve digital marketing assets, with a goal to increase website impressions, improve website organic and PPC placement.
  13. Coordinate and execute photoshoots and videography shoots in collaboration with DOSM.
  14. Coordinate and collaborate with the brand manager to ensure resort brand consistency for all marketing and the marketing creative for all branded collateral development throughout the resort.
  15. On the ready communications, and being the lead for creation and distribution to key internal and external contact (re: crisis communications, guest communications, and others if required)
  16. Build and create marketing plans and yearly media planning plus correlating expense budgets.
  17. Budget analysis and maintenance. Work with the DOSM to ensure department stays within expense budget while moving dollars to and from various line items to prioritize and execute the most profitable projects.
  18. Professionally represent the hotel at all industry/community functions.
  19. Perform other related duties as assigned or required

Other Duties:

  1. Help develop and/or manage processes to track/monitor monthly departmental expenses
  2. Provide feedback/input to evaluate strategies and develop internal and external partnerships
  3. Lead and manage the onsite Marketing and PR coordinator
  4. Communicate with other marketing teams (Prince Waikiki) and MKR operational teams to provide awareness/information to support department strategies

Working Conditions:

  1. Office setting, indoors (majority of time)
  2. Photo shoots and site tours are examples of possible outdoor-related working environments

Work Hours:

  1. Must be able to work scheduled determined by Director of Sales and Marketing
  2. Must be able to work flexible schedule to meet goals (possible weekends)
  3. Travel for business or training related appointments, media blitzes

Equipment Use:

  1. Proficient in the use of a computer with Outlook email, Word and Excel. Use of PowerPoint, Publisher. Use of WordPress, Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign is a plus.
  2. Proficient knowledge of the use of web based and smart phone applications that may be applicable to the position
  3. Proficiently organize all digital files — named, categorized and identifiable
  4. Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to scanners, photocopiers and faxes

  1. Capable to make decisions supporting development, implementation and management of identified strategies

  1. Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines met
  2. Able to multi-task, manage stressful and challenging situations

  5. Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

  1. Must have the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing to employees, department manager and guests/clients
  2. Ability to communicate over the phone or by text

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  1. High School, 2 year hospitality college diploma, 2 years related work experience in Marketing, Public Relations.
  2. Must be personable, positive, team oriented, self-motivated and creative.
  3. Bachelors college degree (in Marketing or Hospitality) Preferred.
  4. 3-5 years’ work experience in Hotel Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising and Digital/Internet media. Preferred 
  5. Must be personable, positive, team oriented, self-motivated and extremely creative.
