The Payroll Analyst maintains payroll accounts and performs accounting processes. Duties may include preparing payroll audits, creating garnishment reports, and advising the payroll department on complex transactions. Coordinate with other departments such as human resources and finance, complete new employment verification, and communicate any changes in payroll to employees.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities


1.      Process weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly non-exempt and exempt payrolls for employees

2.      Review and balance payrolls before and after they have been processed. Validate confirmed reports

3.      Keep informed of regulations, interpretations and practices pertaining to the payroll accounting function

4.      Follow policies and procedures; develop and/or recommend new or revised procedures for improving the overall payroll department

5.      Prepare or assist in the preparation of periodic/special reports for government agencies, tax authorities, insurance industry associations, and other units of the Company as required

6.      Respond to various audit and tax agency queries and requests

7.      Process pay employee data (new hires, pay changes, employee changes)

8.      Complete payroll filing and mailing as necessary

9.      Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transaction will be processed accurately and timely

10.  Process pay changes, tax changes, direct deposit changes

11.  Run reports from time & attendance system and payroll system

12.  Process accurately employee pay for items including special payments and retro payments

13.  Responsible for processing wage garnishments, liens, in accordance with federal and state laws

14.  Researches, analyzes, and resolves payroll related problems or questions by collecting and analyzing information

15.  Communicate with employees and other departments to answer questions and resolve problems

16.  Maintains employees’ confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential

17.  Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested

 

 

Functional and Technical Competencies


·         Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with proficiency in Excel.

·         Strong mathematical, analytical, and technical skills.

·         Ability to quickly learn and utilize all necessary software programs.

·         Ability to multi-task, and work under tight deadlines with flexibility.

·         Excellent customer service skills are required.

·         Attention to detail, well-developed written and verbal communication skills.

 

 

Education/Training and Certification, Licensure, Registration Requirements


·         Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.

·         CPP or FPC or an equivalent payroll certification.

 

 

Experience


·         2 to 4 years of related experience.

·         Requires extensive knowledge of the state laws and regulations concerning employee compensation.
