POSITION SUMMARY


As a member of the Corporate Finance team, the Director of Tax will be responsible for the Company’s corporate tax planning and compliance cycle, including preparation of tax returns and tax provision working papers, as well as assisting with business development, strategic tax initiatives and certain treasury and business planning related matters. This position will work with senior management, corporate finance, and outside tax professionals in carrying out its responsibilities. This position will also collaborate with colleagues in Europe and other jurisdictions to stay informed on all tax matters of the consolidated group.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Lead tax planning, compliance, and reporting
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop a long-term tax strategy that supports the Company’s long-term growth plans, optimizes tax efficiency, and best positions the Company to deliver optimal after-tax returns to its investors
  • Analyze, recommend, and implement legal re-organization strategy to optimize tax basis within the consolidated corporate group and for tax efficient planning in support of private equity owner
  • Effectively plan and manage relationships with outside tax advisors to oversee tax engagements, filings, and compliance with tax authorities in the U.S. and Canada
  • Collaboratively work with tax advisors and the corporate development team to support tax due diligence on potential acquisitions
  • Liaise with external auditors on tax matters
  • Budget, reforecast and monitor annual cash taxes working closely with the treasury function to ensure visibility
  • Responsible for timely completion of U.S. and Canadian income tax returns, including all related analysis, support, managing correspondence and audits by tax authorities related to U.S. and Canadian income tax filings
  • Keep up to date with proposed new tax legislation impacting the Company and its ownership group
  • Oversight of state sales tax returns and income tax returns for the Company’s international subsidiaries
  • Ensure existing transfer pricing documentation is kept up to date, or new documentation is created to support all intercompany relationships
  • Responsible for management fee, intercompany loan and other related party arrangements, ensuring intercompany relationships meet arm’s length principles
  • Responsible for accounting for income taxes and note disclosures in accordance with IFRS including deferred income taxes and evaluation of uncertain tax positions
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place over income tax reporting
  • Other ad hoc financial and tax analysis as required
  • Other related job duties as assigned

QUALIFCATIONS

  • Strong understanding of tax compliance obligations in the U.S. and Canada
  • Ability to act as primary liaison with external tax advisors to ensure quality of work, reasonableness of cost, and scope remains in line with overall tax strategies
  • Ability to write memoranda and reports
  • Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from a variety of internal and external stakeholders

EDUCATION

  • University degree
  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation
  • Completion of US or Canadian In-Depth Tax Course

EXPERIENCE

  • 7 to 10 years’ experience with a public accounting firm, or in a corporate tax department

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Proven communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office applications (strong excel skills are a must); System/ERP experience is a plus but not required (Cognos consolidation, AX 2012, Sage)
