New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Project Engineer to identify, plan, design, coordinate, implement and manage multiple sustainability and other construction projects associated with natural gas infrastructure and facilities. Manage the project scope, schedule, budgets and subcontractors. Ensure design and construction activities comply with all federal and state regulations and company standards, while providing the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of gas service to new and existing customers.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assist in the construction management of sustainability projects to ensure that projects are installed in accordance with the contract, the design drawings and our standards
- Oversee the commissioning and testing program for new sustainability projects
- Obtain permits from State Department of Environmental Protection, County Soil Conservation Districts, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pinelands Commission, Coastal Area Facilities Review Act, and other jurisdictional bodies requiring detailed engineering reports
- Maintain a strong knowledge of local ordinance requirements relating to zoning and planning board applications and approvals
- Develop and/or oversee Environmental Impact Studies and Plans for projects as required
- Serve in an advisory capacity to corporate committees planning, studying, evaluating, and recommending long-range capital improvements and major system reinforcements
- Recommend methods and materials for repairs and maintenance of sustainability-related facilities
- Maintain current knowledge of technical changes and innovations to improve sustainability systems.
- Effectively conduct and represent the Company at pre-construction meetings, maintain accurate minutes and promote general safety and economic construction standards that are in the best interest of the company
- Review construction plans to identify areas of conflict to minimize the company’s financial exposure
- Conduct field inspections, which require the interpretation and implementation of contract specifications and drawings and note deficiencies for remediation; follow up on remediation activities
- Troubleshoot facility abnormalities, and offering technical advice and assistance to the operations departments in providing safe, reliable, adequate, and economic service
- Prepare and obtain voucher checks and state, county, and municipal permits and prepare work order drawings for each installation
- Lend technical advice to the Distribution, PMT, and Gas Control as needed
- Undertake technical projects such as railroad, submarine and bridge crossings, which require the use and application of engineering knowledge and principles
- Design and manage large bid projects; prepare bid documents, including engineering data, write job specifications, obtain necessary permits and approvals, schedule pre-bid and pre-construction meetings, monitor construction activity, receive field reports from inspector, act upon construction conflicts so as to minimize Contractor’s additional work charges on projects
- Mentor and train fellow engineers and employees of lesser experience
- Any other duties and responsibilities determined appropriate by business unit management
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college required, preferably civil or mechanical
- A minimum of 9 years of experience in Public Utility Engineering or related field, or the combined equivalent of education and experience
- Proven project management skills
- Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills
- Must be detail-oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines
- Experience in the design and procurement of industrial equipment and systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
- Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS is preferred
- License as a Professional Engineer is preferred
- This is a safety sensitive position
