SECTION A: OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Interventional Radiology Assistant (IRA) helps the interventional radiologist with office visits and procedures.  The IRA participates with preparing and documenting in the patient’s medical record, scribing during the visit, scheduling, clerical work, and prior authorization.  IRA works with patients, their family, other clinicians and department(s).

 

SECTION B: MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PERCENTAGE

1.       Visit and Procedure

  •          Confirms prior authorizations received.
  •          Schedules visit and procedure following guidelines.
  •          Assist radiologist during visit by documenting encounter in patient’s electronic medical record (EMR) as instructed by the physician.
  •         Reviews medical documentation created and checks for errors and inconsistencies.
  •          Helps radiologist with completing charts and documents.

2.       Authorization and referral

  •          Reviews referral requests for medical necessity
  •          Obtains authorization and works to resolve delayed authorizations

3.       Coding

  •          Understands/learns CPT and ICD-10 codes
  •          Assists with coding and authorizations

4.       Clerical Duties

  •          Checks-in patients and guides patient thru their visit\procedure

5.       Demonstrates quality work, completes assignments on a timely basis, and makes decisions within limits of authority.   Takes initiative in problem solving, maintains confidentiality of patient and company information, and interacts with patients, co-workers, and management in a courteous and respectful manner.  Adheres to all company policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

High School diploma or G.E.D.

 

Desired Skills & Knowledge

·         Radiology scheduling and\or clerical experience.

·         Demonstrates professional, non-intrusive interaction with patients.

·         Proficient with basic computers skills, phones, printers, scanners, and fax machines, etc.

·         Basic knowledge of radiologic practices, human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology. 

·         Knowledge of radiation and MRI safety.

·         Ability to read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English; follow oral and written instructions precisely; get along well with others; and demonstrate an attitude of respect and professionalism.

 

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

·         Employees must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. 

·         Required to be part of the patient visit or procedure

·         The position may work on rotating shifts, with work on weekends and holidays.
