Zoo Visitor Services – Admissions & Special Exhibits Workers

Job Summary: The Zoo Worker in Admissions and Special Exhibits interacts with Zoo Patrons daily. Delivering great customer service is the #1 priority of the Visitor Services department. To deliver great customer service, Zoo workers will accomplish this through up-to-date Zoo product knowledge and friendly delivery of services. The services provided by the Admissions and Special Exhibits staff are Zoo Admissions, Parking, Special Exhibits, Giraffe Feeding Experience, and Zoo Expeditions Tours.

 

AVAILABILITY: Availability to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays required.


Job Responsibilities

  • Delivery of Great Customer Service – While in proper Zoo uniform, provide timely, attentive, accurate, and upbeat service to Zoo Patrons. Making sure customer needs are met in manner that reflects positively on the Milwaukee County Zoo.
  • Ticket Sales, Cash Handling and Point of Sale – Expected to properly handle ticket sales and payment transactions using the Point-of-Sale system. Amounts will be verified, and the customer transactions will be recorded in the Point-of-Sale system. Employee is responsible for proper disbursement of change to patrons.
  • Zoo Grounds Upkeep and Work Area Cleaning - Cleaning and picking up of small debris within the park to ensure a better and cleaner experience for our patrons. Inclusive of immediate work areas, picnic areas, Zoo pathways and employee work areas. Effectively and efficiently performs opening and closing duties of assigned position.
  • Lead Worker - May lead less experienced Zoo Workers in day-to-day tasks of Admissions and Special Exhibits operations. 
  • Ability to safely operate golf carts, vehicles, POS equipment, photocopiers and basic office tools, and various small hand tools.
  • Exhibit Interpretation - Effectively and efficiently communicate with guests specifically about special exhibit content.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

 

Required Education, License/Certification and Experience

  • Eligible applicants must be at least 16 years of age upon application
  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred
  • Previous work experience with cashiering or money handling preferred
  • Previous work experience in Customer Service preferred

 

Note: This Original Examination is open to all qualified applicants authorized to work in the United States.  In accordance with Rule III section 11 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of a review of candidate materials, education and related experience.
