Landscape Architect 1
Full-time, Hourly
Hourly Range: $23.57 - $36.97/hr

Job Summary
This position is responsible for planning, designing, construction, and inspection of parks and related facilities to ensure compliance with long-range plans and departmental strategies. As part of the Parks Planning and Development Division, this position also works to preserve and enhance department assets, ensure quality service, as well as product delivery.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, construction, and review of parks and related facilities by preparing plans, drawings, specifications, and estimates as well as preparing construction documents.
- Define scopes, design parameters, obtain technical data and perform research.
- Assist in capital plan development, as well as business and strategic plans.
- Perform site analysis, including gathering and reviewing data.
- Study and document environmental factors and impacts.
- Produce site analysis of existing physical, psycho−social, human factor, economic and regulatory conditions.
- Prepare demolition plans, tree removal and preservation plans as well as grading and drainage plans.
- Prepare detailed layout staking and construction plans and perform calculations required by local regulatory bodies.
- Obtain soil tests and prepare planting and lighting plans as well as construction details for all site elements for construction implementation and coordinate each of these elements with other project design professionals.
- Execute construction administration, including preparing cost estimates for all elements of a project, obtaining regulatory approvals, compiling bid documents, and assisting in contractor selection.
- Ensure quality control as projects progress, conduct and document regular site meetings, respond to field questions and issues, verify contractor billings, and issue necessary change orders.
- Create punch lists for review of design implementation, conduct final walk−throughs to verify design compliance and conduct post−construction evaluation.
- Prepare narratives, statistical and legislative reports, permits, grant applications and exhibits.
- Review requests for parkland access and right-of-entry permit applications.
- Attend public hearings and informational meetings.
- Participate on special project teams and develop community outreach, marketing, and communication efforts.
- Operate vehicles, computers, general office equipment and hand tools.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Education, License/Certification and Experiences
- Valid driver’s license required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
- Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture or closely related field accredited by the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board from the American Society of Landscape Architects OR a degree determined by the landscape architect section to be equivalent.
- At least six (6) months or more work experience in Landscape Architecture required.
- Previous GIS experience preferred.
- Previous CAD experience preferred.
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification preferred.
