Reporting directly to the VP, Controller, this role provides sophisticated, highly technical reporting and analysis across multiple accounting and finance disciplines to provide the Credit Union with external and internal financial statements, analysis, and budgetary reporting. Essential Job Functions

 

  • Prepare various financial analyses and operational functions. Serve as department and Credit Union resource and resolve complex issues.
  • Perform daily reconciliation of multiple general ledger accounts and coordinate corrections with various departments.
  • Compile and post general ledger entries daily for several accounting functions.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation and research for selected balance sheet accounts.
  • Coordinate month end processing and close for selected accounting functions, which may include fixed assets, deferred loan fees, expenses, interest accruals, and others as assigned.
  • Prepare periodic internal and regulatory financial reports required by management, examiners, and auditors.
  • Prepare regulatory reporting such as the quarterly 5300 report.
  • Collaborate with staff to research and resolve accounting and operational issues.
  • Develop, coordinate, oversee, and review preparation of various internal management financial reporting, including various daily and monthly financial reports and Board and Committee packages. Prepare ad hoc analysis and strategic and insightful reports with the intent of contributing to the decision management process for senior management.
  • Create, implement, and ensure Finance team has adequate policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure sound and efficient operations.
  • Prepare schedules and analysis necessary in the development and management of the annual budgeting process and periodic re-forecasting process. Set expectations for cost center manager participation and coordinate submissions received from responsible managers for accuracy and reasonableness to include:
    • Balance sheet and interest rate projections for calculation of net interest income.
    • Non-interest income and non-interest expense budgeting.
    • Capital and non-capital expense budgeting.
    • Individual responsibility cost center review with senior officers and teams.
    • Bottom-up consolidation and top-level review with final adjustments.
    • Report preparation for Senior Management and Board of Director approval.
    • Oversight of monthly and quarterly budget variance and trend report preparation and timely distribution. Review for reasonableness and accuracy. Analysis of unusual budget variances and preparation of explanations in accordance with the month end variance analysis.
  • Perform ad hoc technical accounting and financial analysis as needed, and in a self-directed manner.

 

Requirements: 

     

  • Education and Experience 
    • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Master’s degree preferred.
    • CPA required.
    • 3-7 years of accounting and/or auditing experience in a financial institution strongly preferred.
    • Prior experience with office software applications.
    • Prior experience with web-based financial portal and general ledger systems strongly preferred.
    • Prior experience developing or auditing accounting procedures in an effective control environment strongly preferred.

 

  • Skills/Knowledge/Certifications
    • Knowledge of accounting for a community financial institution
    • Knowledge of state and federal banking regulations.
    • Demonstrated spreadsheet skills.
    • Excellent computing skills including general ledger, loan, deposit, and related software.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external parties, provide department leadership, with the ability to influence senior level management as needed.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills. Self-motivated.
    • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proven ability to work within a collaborative team environment and independently on long-term projects.
    • Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities.
    • Ability to manage complex projects, from both a technical and personnel perspective, in a timely and effective way.

  • Position is eligible for Hybrid Work Agreement: minimum of 3 days/week in office. (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and another day to be worked out within department).

All new hires are required to onboard for a minimum of 30 days on-site in Chelsea.

Metro’s Hybrid Work Policy requires three in-person days for all employees whose primary office location is 200 Revere Beach Parkway. All employees will be required to report to work at 200 RBP every Tuesday and Wednesday. With approval from their manager, employees may choose the third day that works best for their own individual needs and schedules.
