Summary: Coordinates community and membership outreach activities for the Missouri Gateway Green Building Council, a volunteer-based organization that is an affiliate of the Missouri Botanical Garden and housed at the EarthWays Center. Prepares promotional and marketing materials, newsletters and social media, assists in keeping website up-to-date, organizes speaker engagements and community volunteer opportunities for members, supports educational programming efforts, and participates in various committees and Council events. Serves as main representative for membership and volunteer engagement programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serves as main contact for membership support (answer phone inquiries, e-mails, etc.).
• Manages correspondence with new members and lapsed members and connects Council members and national USGBC members with opportunities to get involved locally.
• Maintains the membership database and email subscriber lists.
• Develops and implements membership engagement and recruitment and retention strategies and analyzes membership data in cooperation with the Engagement & Outreach Committee, including every other year member survey.
• Develops and implements the Council’s marketing and communication strategy, working with the Executive Director, Green Schools Manager, and the Engagement & Outreach Committee, including social media, monthly e-newsletter, and maintaining website content in order to promote a professional image and consistent brand of the Council to the community.
• Supports the Education Committee and Executive Director in the planning development and implementation of annual education calendar of educational and professional development offerings, including monthly evening programs, coffee breaks and other opportunities that arise.
• Coordinates educational event logistics, including continuing education, catering, promotion, venue and AV logistics, communication with partners and vendors, registration, and post-event follow up.
• Support members in seeking assistance and information on pursuing LEED and other sustainability credentials and in meeting educational requirements to maintain credentials.
• Coordinates community outreach, community engagement and partnership development with an emphasis on reaching new and diverse audiences and developing formal partnerships and on-going relationships with organizations in order to pursue Council’s mission and vision.
• Engages higher education students and emerging professionals in Council activities, working with the Engagement & Outreach Committee and local organizations to facilitate integration of future green building leaders (happy hours, tours, volunteer projects, networking, career development opportunities, etc.).
• Collaborates with the Executive Director and Green Schools Manager on organizational administration including developing, implementing, and benchmarking the strategic plan.
• Ensures that all applicable safety standards are followed; informs employees/students/volunteers of safety guidelines, methods to reduce hazards. Reports all accidents, injuries and near-miss accidents immediately.
• Behaves and communicates in a manner that promotes and fosters a culture of teamwork and cooperation, within the Council, the Sustainability Division and throughout the Garden, with co-workers, supervisors/managers, volunteers, visitors and employees
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications/Experience:
• Minimum of three plus (3+) years of related work experience, including experience and/or understanding of the building industry, specifically issues associated with green building design, construction, and operations principles.
• Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) for managing membership processing and event registration is a plus.
• Demonstrated abilities in project management, priority setting, analytical and objective decision-making.
• Ability to effectively and accurately create and manage databases.
• Exceptional ability in managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of social media platforms and WordPress.
• Ability to attain LEED Green Associate or LEED Accredited Professional within six months of employment.
• Ability to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends and travel when necessary.
• Use of personal vehicle required for frequent local travel to program meetings, events, and purchase supplies.

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree Business, Communications, Sustainability, Environmental Studies or related area is required.
• An equivalent combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.

Mathematical Skills: Requires ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages and decimals; etc.
Reasoning Ability: Requires ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.
Computer Skills:
• Proficiency in navigating through various PC applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite 2010 (i.e., PowerPoint, Excel and Word) or a similar application.
• Solid Internet research skills.
• Knowledge and comfort with online meeting platforms, social media platforms, Canva, and Word Press
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
• Must have and maintain valid Driver’s license and clean driving record prior to employment.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to utilize computer keyboard (typing) and operate standard office equipment (i.e. copier, printer, fax, etc.)
• Ability to work both indoors and out.
• May be required to perform tasks at varying heights (i.e., step stools, etc.)
• Occasionally requires ability for extensive standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching for extended periods of time where 10% or more of the workday is standing on feet.
Work Environment:
• Indoor office setting—noise level moderate.
• Indoor event settings (and less frequently outdoor event settings).
• Occasional travel required (local/domestically).
Contacts with Individuals/Organizations inside/outside the Garden:
• Other Garden employees and volunteers.
• Works in cooperation with Missouri Gateway Green Building Council Board of Directors, Committees, members and volunteers.
• Works with individuals and organizations providing funding.
• Works with building industry professionals, built environment stakeholder groups, local and state government, schools (K-12 and higher education), trade associations and other partnering organization to promote Council mission and vision.
