Lynden Logistics, Inc. is looking for someone who is enthusiastic and self-motivated to join our dynamic perishables operations team. This position handles all aspects of customer service for perishable shipping including operations and warehouse functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Receives orders from Perishable customers, books routings for shipments, and prepares airline bills.
  • Verifies shipper/consignee/bill to information, piece/weight/dimensions on PRELIMS/HAWBS is complete/legible. Find ways to keep transportation cost down.
  • Enters PRELIMS/HAWBS into Filepro/Kayak.
  • Routes shipments based on service, known/unknown shipper status and carrier availability.
  • Prepares airline bills.
  • Performs customer service (tracking pickups, tracing, responding to inquiries, and handling anything a customer requests) and carrier relations (contact with carrier customer service reps, dock people, drivers, etc.).
  • Works with customers, vendor, and co-workers using verbal and written communication.
  • Presents finalized airline bill to warehouse for transfer.
  • Works in the office, warehouse and some delivery driving using panel truck.
  • Assist warehouse with any tasks needed in order to make cut offs.
  • Assist warehouse with any dry freight needs as available.
  • Loads and unloads shipments into or out of containers or pallets by hand.
  • Load and secure shipments in or on truck.
  • Responsible for keeping work area clean, performing truck inspections.
  • Daily on-time attendance during work shift required. This position will require OT based on seasonal workload.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

High school education equivalent, plus two years work experience; office experience preferred.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Good written and verbal skills to effectively present information in writing and in person in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to calculate freight rates, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics to calculate percentages and freight rates, including the effect of dimensionalized weight.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to make quick decisions.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to write legibly, especially numbers, and to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

Intermediate user of Microsoft Office products. Experience with freight software a plus.

Must undergo pre-employment drug screening and background investigation.

Physical demands of this job based on long term sitting, repetitious activities, verifying freight received against shipping manifest, & keyboarding.

Physical demands of this job in the warehouse requires the ability to lift and move cargo, frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.; frequent walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Able to use and train on warehouse equipment, tools, and/or controls

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to extreme cold in the winter and extreme heat in the summer. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May be punctuated with sporadic loud noises.
