One day you may be talking to the family of a shooting
victim. The next week you may be at a business opening. And your next day’s
schedule could change at the drop of the hat when you grab a camera and get
over to an active house fire. And through that you’ll be working on projects
about local problems, whether they be housing issues to questionable uses of
public funds, to bringing attention to unsolved cold cases.
This is true local journalism we’re doing here.
The Journal Times is a place to learn and grow, but more importantly
to make an impact on a community that benefits from local news.
We’re looking for a newspaper reporter/photographer who
writes clearly, can develop relationships with sources and has an ability to
take initiative. Responsibilities will include writing, taking photos for
the paper, posting content online and on social media.
The Journal Times is a daily newspaper in southeast
Wisconsin with numerous statewide awards. We are based in Racine but are part
of a nationwide network; your work will be read by thousands across the
Midwest.
New journalists are welcome to apply. Writing samples and
photos from college papers are welcome. We can offer training for a skilled
candidate.
The position requires some night and weekend hours. The
ideal candidate would be able to cover a variety of stories from news to
features to sports.
We cover an urban, suburban and rural area with its downtown
along Lake Michigan. The county sits between Milwaukee and Chicago.
Racine County is a community that has its own identity and relies on The
Journal Times for news and information. The Journal Times is part of Lee
Enterprises.
Apply online at www.journaltimes.com/workhere.
Please attach a resume, links to your writing and photo samples, and references
if available.
