The Lincoln Journal Star, serving Nebraska’s capital city and southeast Nebraska, is looking for an enterprising trending topics reporter who will turn up the next big story or transform a developing story into something even better for our readers. We’re looking for a strong writer who has – or wants to develop – broader multimedia skills. We need a great storyteller who can engage readers with 300 words written in 20 minutes or 1,300 words written over two weeks while working on other stories.

We want someone who enjoys writing about the off-beat and on topics that fall between other reporters’ beats. Some stories will be light-hearted and quick; others could require deeper research and great investigatory and interviewing skills. But every story will hit a sweet spot for a chunk of the community, engaging current readers and attracting new ones.

The Journal Star offers a collaborative and collegial newsroom, operating out of a new facility in a vibrant part of town. Lincoln is home to state government, the University of Nebraska and is a regional health care hub, creating an engaged community, dedicated readers with an appreciation for good journalism and wealth of great stories to be told.
